I have been strictly LOOKING (not shopping) into the new Matthew’s and comparing them too the new Hoyt’s. My personal opinion If money was an object I think the Matthew’s phase 4 would take my pick.

Shoot one of everything your shop carries, you might be surprised what "your" bow ends up being.

Well, I just fell victim to this very thing. Had a strong idea of what I wanted, or at least had narrowed it down to 2 particular companies. I ended up walking out with a bow a swore I would never own. I ended up buying the Matthew’s Lift by the way.

Good luck on your hunt for a new bow. Don’t shoot the Lift if you’re just looking cause you’ll end up buying it. I found that out the hard way.

I still think the best Matthews out there right now is the V3X 33 or 29. I have a Phase 4 33 for target and love it but and it is quieter but you can get a great used V3X for a good price and have a great rig.

To OP original question, the Hoyts I've shot are nice but I have preferred Mathews draw in the past, and Mathews has more options to fiddle with things down the road so I'd probably take Mathews.

Why not a lift over the phase 4? I haven't heard anything bad at all about lifts...
Honestly of what I found the lifts only advantage is it’s lighter and I just feel like that could have came out with a new phase 4 instead of a whole different run of bows and the “8fps” faster they claim the new cams produce just doesn’t seem worth a whole new style and parts. Just my opinion don’t have anything against the lift and would 100% shoot one.

Don’t rule out the smoothness and simplicity in adjustments of a……. Bowtech. Yes, I said it, a Bowtech.
I have a 2018 Bowtech Realm, and she has been amazing with no plans to upgrade, but she will be sharing time with the Traditional bow at some point.
Totally agree with @BTaylor, shoot every bow your shop has to offer.
Good luck!!!

Food for thought.
I purchased arguably the most expensive bow on the rack, Hoyt Rx8 Ultra.
Love the bow. It started creaking around 100 shots.
I emailed Hoyt and they said take it to dealer first.

Dealer had my bow a week, cleaned and lubed and reassembled bow. ( they say)
I went to get my bow and they let me know it was ordinarily a 2.5 hr fee but they took care of it for me. Gee how nice of them.
I told him that was between him and hoyt.
He said if it happens again, he will take care of it.
For how long, what about my time and expense and without a bow?
The bow still has a minor creak at first draw.
I am keeping the bow but since found out this has been going on with rx7 & rx5s.

I said to him this is not what I signed up for and should of bought a Lift.
He said no. I have had 4 lifts come in with broken limbs. Your better off with the hoyt.

A few weeks ago there was no mention of any if this and they will just sell you what you like.

I thought of posting about my displeasure being a $2k bow but now that I found this opportunity so there you go.

I been away from compounds for a long time but I will tell you this, they dont build them like they used to and for nominal speed gains, keep the bow you love and recam and string it.

Good luck!

I currently shoot a bowtech general and it’s extremely smooth. My only problem is that I can’t find the mods for it so I can get my draw length where I want it.

That would be frustrating to say the least. I am lucky to have grown up with the grandkids of the people that own our local shop and I was actually in there yesterday and talking about the limbs on the lift

Don’t let the internet influence what you buy. Go shoot everything if moneys an object then save up more. Want personal opinion( which I know here is going to be less than popular) I absolutely HATE Matthew’s. Every single one of them. I don’t like the grip I don’t like how they hold I don’t like how they draw and don’t even get me going on the back wall. BUT this is all preference so why would my words make you buy a Hoyt? They shouldn’t. Shop or “look” for what makes you comfortable

In the very old days we used to lengthen the string about one inch for increased draw weight. This changed draw length as well, longer d loops are not a bad thing.
You can get it.
I think podium did a bow recent years where he took a riser and cams from a different bow, custom string length…
There is room to play.

I made my first set of compound bow strings( easy) using the info found on various builder websites.
None offer a longer set of strings for this bow.
So I made string 1.75 short and cable .5 short.
Bow lost much poundage but otherwise made specs. Turns iut for bows marked 30” draw or over they take longer strings on the same platform.

Make some calls, work with it. As long as the string doesn’t get near over lap at cam..

You have to be careful on the advice you take from the internet to be sure.
I try to vet posters as possible to see what they say, prefer, rant, or speak on things I know to be true from my two weeks in the field.

In the past it was said for every case of aids there is a hundred out in the field. I am convinced about the lift in particular. I gad read it a few times before I went out shopping.

I am personally convinced there is limb breakage occurring in several brands. I would most be concerned with the one in my sights!

Good luck again!

I have been out of the compound market since 2018. However, one of the things that were a plus for Bowtech was the DL and weight were fully adjustable without purchasing additional modules or limbs. Is that not the case anymore?
Heck you could even switch from comfort to performance mode by just flipping the disc.

I can adjust my draw length but when I adjust it where I need it the let off point isn’t right and the bow shop said it needs new mods for it to be right
