I've literally saved $100's using the classifieds. It's not about the $15 dollars, apparently its now about slowing growth? Seems like the opposite of a website, you know, where anyone and everyone can get on and send instant messages saying whatever they want anytime they want.......

Wanna slow growth, make a MySpace page.....

Dude I have much bigger wishes then letting SH whiners make me feel comfortable. I learned a long time ago that someone's opinion of me is none of my business - i.e. I don't care what snifflers think. Some of you really need to get out and hunt and appreciate what you DO HAVE.
I couldn't agree more.

Me crystal ball does think this will probably put a kibosh to the classifieds. I guess I'm not that upset about it personally. It's given me a good marketplace to unload my duds, but my system is now so dialed in I don't see using it much in the future. I see a lot of people in my "saddle class" that I think that applies to. Now with the saddle becoming full blown fad, I see way too much gouging and the dozens of daily WTB noob ads. Other forum owners I know have said the classifieds cause 99% of the site's trouble. Can't blame him if this is surreptitiously getting rid of the hassle.

Classifieds are another tool to bring new people to the site. No different than your videos on YouTube.
When I joined the site the classifieds were crucial. Back then you could pick from the original guidos web the aero evolution. If you didn’t want those two items you didn’t buy it new. The classifieds here are where most of the old trophylines, the andersons, and basically any other saddle found life with current and new saddle hunters. Now pretty much anything you could want can be found new. Yes some of it is expensive new but trophylines and ameristeps we’re getting quite pricey before the kestrel and squirrel steps brought them back to reality.

Then why only limit access to classifieds. Why not limit the whole site and make it 5 bucks a year. He would make more money that way and still limit the "cheapskates" and "whiners". One could argue the people who agree with red are whining. Just a matter of perspective.

Not an insider, but from what I recall - the "mission statement" of this site is to provide a resource and discussion area for saddle hunters and prospective saddle hunters. Not just people who pay up. And the classifieds were added to give site users a placr to trade with each other. Not to drive growth, but as a service for the existing community to utilize. And pretty sure @redsquirrel is on record as not wanting this to be a business.

I suspect that the classifieds provide a whole lotta extra heartburn, for something not really within the core mission of the site.

Ok guys, I think this is going down the wrong road...

Support @redsquirrel and the site however you feel is fair. What he has created and how he has created it with no ads, no fees, very little bs :) in his free time is humble. Buy a shirt or hat, give the $15 for the classifieds, or contribute knowledge and content to the site. Do what makes you feel like you're being a contributing part of the community. We all need a site like this for different reasons at different times. I'm happy it is here to be a hunting camp away from home and help me be more efficient with the time I have to hunt. Lots of friendships and camaraderie have been built here for many. Many personal situations(good and bad), first kills, and memorable stories have been shared and commented on to encourage or support other members.

Stay and be a part of it, its a great place, or leave and find another place that suits your current needs.

I think he wants the content still out there for free, I also think he figured the ones selling and buying are more willing to throw down $15

That's like ... your opinion, man :D

Nice pull LOL

There we go.

I wrote up my thoughts on the matter and have posted them here for anyone interested.

When red shut down saddlehunter I started a site JUST SO I COULD CONTINUE TO TALK TO YOU GUYS!! LOL

If he's looking for money then he's looking for growth. Growth adds ingenuity and experience. The whole purpose of creating this forum is to grow the saddle experience.
Nobody is trying to slow the growth except for nutterbusters wife who cant seam to understand why her husband needs a size larger pant every 2 months
There are a lot of people posting thoughts that aren't mine but are being taken as mine.

My intention has never been to grow saddle hunting. When I started saddle hunting it was a very small community. My goal was always and remains to provide a community for saddle hunters and to promote saddle hunting in a safe way. If growth is a side effect of that, so be it. But I've never been looking to grow or slow the growth of saddle hunting.
