Merry Christmas Red Beard

Been talking with @Red Beard about a kids saddle for the past few days. Finally got my last final exam done last night so I sat down and made his daughter a saddle. For anyone interested, it is not easier to make a smaller saddle. Might be more difficult with the smaller dimensions. But it turned out good. I tried 1 inch webbing for the suspension to see if it will support a kids weight and still be comfortable. Other than that it has a slightly smaller functioning pleat, linemans loops with molle, and I borrowed 3 knaider slides for this prototype. Figured for a kids saddle it’s safer for mom or dad to strap them in than to have quick release buckles.
Just think, one down, 17 to go! You do realize @Red Beard has a few kids, right??

Looking great, can't wait to see where this goes.

Could u not make a full size saddle and fold and sew stitches that could later be popped and have it expand as they grow?
I did that here with a speedy stitcher.

My girlfriend loves this kids saddle. Thinks it’s cute so she had to try it on. She’s 5’8 and 145 pounds for reference. Here are some pics. I think it hits the sweet spot of not huge for smaller kids but will fit a bigger kid. Once Red Beard gets it he can report back with any changes that may need to be madeD2192576-15A2-4A92-A12B-E9A88A081B32.png27F7F644-8226-4B24-A8DD-799CC810CCB0.png670C6BF5-044D-4560-A0EB-0FC151015B56.png

I have 3 machines now. All juki. An 8700H, a 1541s, and I just paid for a 1508NH that I pick up next week. I sew every day. Mostly knaiders and swaiders. Lots of gear for me and friends. And the occasional boat cover or some other random thing someone may need. With school, work, and a kid I rarely sew for more than a few hours a day but I’ve debated quitting the job and focusing on school and sewing

Follow your heart / dreams. Us old fogies will tell you (about our past) that we did not regret what we did, but we regret what we did not do (due to fear/comfort/complacency) in the past. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

If I could find a way to make these kids saddles affordable I wouldn’t mind making them and selling them. How much is a fair price for a kids saddle? They require as much work but you could save money using slides instead of buckles. Half the price of an adult saddle??
I’d buy one today at half the price of an adult saddle.

I'd be in the market for on eventually as well, I've been looking into how to get my son started! Although, he's a bit young at the moment lol, already looking ahead. Way to go @JCLINE84 , great job as always!

@JCLINE84 these are amazing! I've got a soon to be 4 year old and a 9 month old. Obviously the 9 month old has some time lol but I'd get one of these for the 4 year old at the half price mark even if it was just for around the house to learn until he's ready to actually hunt. Well done

I want to remind everyone that there are no DIY saddle sales allowed on the forum. It's one thing for a friend to make one for a friend or 2 and share, but further than that would be considered "custom production". At that point as far as this forum is considered we would look to see that the producer has a business for those saddle sales. @JCLINE84 if you decide to go that route please let us know and we can give you a vendor tag. Obviously there is a liability for someone selling saddles which is why we limit them to established businesses on here. Thank you all.

Maybe I should look into some product liability insurance and pick out a brand name
