Michigan Man Charged With 125 Wildlife Crimes

Not condoning all the medical students who robbed graves back in the day either. Just wondering how you kill 18 wolves in a year, when most folks can't even manage to see one.
[/QUOTE]

Im thinking he was hunting over some kind of bait or carcass to increase his odds. Bald eagles will readily scavenge kill sites so I'm thinking he picked them up as a bonus when they landed in the kill zone

I'm certainly not condoning the killing of wolves but they are hated in Michigan's UP.
I thought I had read about that, but wasn't sure. I can see folks having issues with a highly intelligent predator that we kinda ran off for a reason...

Honestly, I'm kinda shocked by the responses on here. Poachers suck, I get it. But splitting skulls and serving the kind of justice that will "save the taxpayer money?" Increase a fine that's already pretty ruinous (or would be for me, anyway)? Seems kinda silly.

The wolves have pretty much overrun Michigan's UP. They are at the top of the food chain and federally protected in spite of the fact that their numbers currently demonstrate they are not endangered (at least not in Michigan's UP). I have a good friend with a family hunting camp in the mid-eastern UP and 10 years ago he would routinely bring in trail cam pics of trophy bucks. All he gets on camera now are pictures of wolves. Not even does and fawns, just wolves.

The other issue is that they are apparently loosing their fear of humans. More stories of direct challenges are reported. Also pets are being taken directly from backyards and hunting dogs are being attacked and killed while small game hunting with their owners. Personally I have some sympathy for the sportsmen of the UP with respect to the wolves. Unfortunately I believe it only a matter of time before there's a fatal attack on a human. There's a reason our ancestors did their best to eradicate them.

That doesn't mean I condone their slaughter outside of the law and I certainly take umbridge with the killing of bald eagles. I completely agree this guy is due his punishment within the confines of the law but I also take exception to the extent others have posted here. As far as the $500 bond, the guy is most likely not a flight risk and bond is really intended to make sure you show up for your court date.

As others have pointed out, the worst penalty you could impose on me personally would be revocation of my hunting and fishing privileges. Unfortunately, for those who are already willing to blatantly disregard the rules, hunting without a license is not generally as big of an issue as it would be for me personally.

Just remember, its easy to cast stones when you only see part of the story. I'll agree that I don't believe I would "enjoy sharing a campfire" with this individual since it seems we have a significant difference of opinion about our outdoor values but I'm also willing to admit I don't know all the details either. Remember, we're all presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Alligators used to be federally protected.... once there population numbers can't be ignored they will open up hunting

Gators brought our state 1.8 million dollars 2018

Maybe Mr Wolf/Eagle could be caught in the woods doing his illicit activities and be served good old fashion justice and save the taxpayers some money and still get the message across. He should never get a hunting lic. anywhere in the country.
He's already proved 125 times he doesn't need a hunting license. So what kind of punishment is that. He's a money grabber, and a power tripper. If money and profit is the number one motivation to do something, of course you can do it the cheapest way possible. The man has no integrity, he preys on animals who can't defend themselves. He hunts posted land out of season using illegal means, and no limits, for profit. WHAT A STUD.
