Going to be my first season trying the milk weed as an indicator I’ve always used powder. Do you have to dry them out? Or just pull them from the sack and throw them in a bag?

Let them start to dry on the plant but pick them before they split.
Use floaters right from the pod. No need to put them in another container. In fact, stuffing them in a bottle, or bag damages the little fibers and then they won't float quite as good.
Put a rubber band around the pod when you pick them to contain the floaters or you will have a mess.
Add a clip to the pod so you can attach it to your coat. You don't want to have to fish around your pocket for it every time you need to release a floater. And without a clip, the pod will end up on the ground...guaranteed.
