At what point do I start pulling the pods off the vine?

Are you sure that’s milkweed? Milkweed isn’t a vine as far as I know.

Milk weed actually does have a vine variety! My DNR calls it sand vine I believe So far I have found out it’s best to do so when they naturally start drying

Good to know there’s some varieties out there!

I just knocked a ton of weeds down out of my ponds banks and some milkweed was in there. I grabbed the pods I could find before throwing the rest on the burn pile. The pods are still way green. Hoping they’ll dry out naturally and won’t grow mold first.

I’m guessing there are lots of varsities. This ones called honey vine milkweed.

thats the kind i have here growing on a fence, dont even think its flowering yet. il have to go look.

The ones I pick while they are still green I just keep them spaced out from each other on the work bench with 80% luck of not molding

You could probably wait a while. They'll dry on the vine before splitting. If you're impatient, they'd probably work fine if harvested now.

I tried collecting green milkweed and drying it myself. It didn't work nearly as well as waiting until it opens naturally (much fluffier that way). We have a red and black beetle here that loves it and you'll find them in your milk weed bag.
