Minimalist saddle minimalist gear

Last year it the bow fell out from 20ft and this year opening day morning it fell again. It has been cinched done all times and walking with it it stays put. When you have over $1500 wrapped into your bow any fall is bad. Luckily opening day I was able to hammer the dovetail straight on my sight. My sling is a Cabela's brand one which i got as a gift. It works for walking not so much for climbing.
Wow, I've never had that happen. I used the primos slings for a while, but they stretched out and I'd have to replace them. I'd have to check the brand of the one I'm using now. Its pretty tight on there and I haven't had any issues. I love throwing my bow over my shoulder for the walk in and out.

I use the Primos Neoprene Sling. It's great and holds the bow very securely.

I could not agree more for transporting the bow however I have way too much money wrapped into my bow(s). Bows are my addiction so im sure my concern is valid. I have to revisit this idea and search for something more secure.

There is always DIY :D

Maybe I could sew additional straps to keep it contained. Lol im an idiot and did not think of that.

I washed my primos the other day and it collapsed the cam cups. Maybe they will eventually regain memory

I forgot to put rangefinder on the list, good call. Every once in a while I throw binocs in there, but for the most part I stopped carrying them because they don't make a difference on my hunt. Sure I can see the deer better from further away, but it doesn't bring them any closer.
I quit carrying my binos and bought a 10x power monocular from vortex, very light and compact and got it new on eBay for around $40. Works great..

Checked my fully liberalized added weight last night 9# exactly....I can do better..

These days, I'm actually thinking of just using my BOD rock harness with the LW seat/climber/platform.

I find that I can pretty much just stand completely on the platform, lean forward on the tree (not lean back to "sit"), move around, turn around completely, etc. with minimal emphasis on the saddle. I can even sit on the platform because I use a Petzl I'D that has the built-in rappel device, then do a short "climb" up the tether with a Ropeman and pulley above the Petzl.

FWIW.

I am considering this with my XOP climber seat. But just adding the Sitdrag adds a good bit of comfort for very little weight and bulk increase.I have a fixed webbing bridge on mine and it rolls up small.

But ascending with the BOD...you have to really be aware of the strap placements before you load it!
I've been 'nut sacked' a few times.

Make sure you have a good return policy.
I tried a few monos and wasn't happy with any.
None of them did well with one handed focus.

I tried the Vortex Solo (no good in low light), Roxant had terrible flare problems, Celestron falls apart. None of them looked as good as just looking though one side of my cheap Leupold Binos.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Which leupolds do you have?

I just tried this for just a few minutes.
GREAT combo. I didn't use the SitDrag as an experiment.
I think your legs would get fatigued if you leaned into the BOD for too long.
The SitDrag would make it totally fine though especially since you can stand up on the platform.

The BX-1 Yosemite? 6x. About $80 or so

Nice :)

Now I really have to try it, do at least a couple of hours and see how it feels. I'm really glad you tried it because I'm kinda chicken.

I'm figuring it'll be more comfy with my insulated overalls for sure. Too bad it is too warm this week.

Although I just sling the LW's belt over my shoulder to carry it in, I was kinda thinking that I could install shoulder straps onto the thing and carry it like a pack frame to free up both arms more. I could then clip stuff onto the seat pattern to hump stuff in. I could even try to figure on using the shoulder straps as the climbing stirrups AND tie-down method as well.

With this and just the Alipne BOD, it can be a really super trim and light set up.

Cbigbear added a battle belt to his Alpine Bod harness along with a sit-drag. He hasn't been on here in awhile, but seems he liked that combination. Just the harness itself wouldn't be comfortable, but adding the battle belt surely helped that. I stand a lot, but still like to rest once in awhile and you wont want to do that very long in just a rc harness. Even doing the 1 stick climbing with an rc harness sucks and your only hanging there for seconds.

Some great ideas here. I sweat really bad so I carry my gear in a badlands pack to the tree. I usually prescout so tree is usually prepped already. If not I carry the ez-cut drill and bolts or aluminum sticks with strap aider. In colorado, 90% of trees can be limb climbed just need limb saw.
My gear consists of:
Rangefinder
Havalon knife
Headlamp with extra batteries
Flashlight
Gloves
Arm guard
Facepaint when warm, mask in winter
Calls
Bow and pack hook
Release
Bow with sling
Haul rope on saddle
Alaska game bags when meat to haul
GPS
I modify everything depending on weather conditions.
