So, where im hunting (TVA land and WMAs in TN), a "motorized vehicle" is not allowed on unimproved roads (dirt roads), making an ebike or 4x4 obsolete...at least for hunting where I do.

What are the rules in your state?

I'm not sure about TN state statutes, however according to federal law e-bikes with motors up to 750 watts (and a couple of other stipulations) are considered bicycles and are not under "motor vehicle" restrictions. Something to consider :)

Each wma has different rules. Some are foot traffic only and others allow trucks and 4wheelers.... the 1s I hunt the most have a centralized road system that allows traffic during quota hunts but are closed the rest of the time......

In VA:
Access Roads
  • Hunter access roads on Department lands seasonally open to motor vehicles will be open (weather permitting) from the last Saturday in September to the 2nd Saturday in February and the 1st Saturday in April to the 3rd Saturday in May.
  • Opening and closing dates of hunter access roads on National Forest lands may vary by ranger district. Opening and closing dates are determined by management considerations for the areas accessed by these roads. Contact the local ranger district listed at left for opening and closing dates on specific roads.
  • Any motor driven vehicle using roads normally open to motor vehicles on Department and National Forest lands shall conform with all state laws for highway travel. No cross country travel is permitted. All terrain vehicle (ATV) and off-road vehicle (ORV) travel is permitted only on designated National Forest roads and trails.

Add a buggy.....endless possibilities

I would be careful assuming that this applies in individual States. Typically if a State law is more restrictive it will apply. Especially, if it is State owned land.

I’ve had this argument on here already for PA lol some swear it’s legal on state land but it’s definitely not. Not yet anyways they are passing legislation this year. Would of already been passed if it wasn’t for covid. I actually just ordered a radrover still waiting bc it’s back ordered. But here is link third section down or so is the legislation proposed to pass this year for class 2-3 e bikes. I would definitely recommend anyone to check out their state sites bc there is a lot of other sites that state information that it’s legal already in pa When in fact it isn’t on state land. However PA did legalize them for on road use already. But I’m sure this comment will get stuff Stirred up Agin lol. I’m a stickler for citing legitimate information so if anyone can cite me some actual real info proving me wrong on a legitimate state site I’d love to see it lol.

The county I hunt has two types of public land. State land controlled by Michigan and federal land controlled by the USFS. State land is pretty straight forward as to what you can drive where but the federal land is more complicated. Lots of seasonal closures and a few restrictions. You also need a USFS permit to park in certain areas. We also have a few dedicated hiking trails and horse trails where wheeled vehicles are prohibited. Wheeled vehicles are also restricted from operating in wetlands and can not cross any trout stream. In the winter snowmobiles have a separate set of rules and of course permits.
