I bought this for my early season ADX muzzleloader camping trip because I will be mostly just hiking around hoping to jump a deer.

What are people’s thoughts on using this in the saddle too when I am back home archery hunting.

I would think wear orange lol, lumbar packs have always been uncomfortable for me while using during deer season, but it works for others… if you could get some shoulder straps for that it would help with support and comfort.
Looks like a great scout pack though.

Not sure about the saddle, but I use an older version of that same pack for fly fishing and wet wading. Works great and has held up really well. Most fishing packs don’t have a way to carry water, and when I found that Mountainsmith lumbar pack at a Goodwill, I knew it would be perfect. I love it.

I use a small fanny pack worn with the large part in the front walking in and take it off once up the tree. I have my rope, release, gloves, flashlight, headcover, knife, milkweed, release, bow holders, small saw and snips in it. Will add 2 small side pockets for tether and lineman if I use a 2 panel this year. I've used a fanny pack almost my entire hunting life and I'm 54, so it works for me for those small items. That actually looks like a good one as long as it isn't too large. I tend to like the smaller ones, but do like multiple pockets to keep things organized.

It just depends on your set up. But if you can make it work, go for it!

I went minimalist last year and hunted with only a pack like this in early season. It was pretty sweet but I found it limiting (obviously)…By the time the mid October rolled around I need to size up to carry an extra layer or 2.

I decided I don’t want to switch packs mid season so I got a mystery ranch pop up 28 , so no more switching for me.

best of luck

if my setup allowed something like that, then i'd use it

i'm a fan of using hiking brand stuff whenever possible (better quality to price ratio compared to hunting companies that pretend they invented all the tech they use that was developed by hiking companies)

Thats my method as well and I use my old military gear as well… doesnt have the cool logo but gets the job done.

Another plus with the specific pack is you can hook up shoulder straps to it. Im gonna give it a try and if it doesnt work for hunting Ill use it scouting/hiking.

Has anyone tried this? I’m really considering taking pouches off of my saddle and just using a tactical belt or fanny pack to keep my gear in. I came across this and it looks like it would work perfect for me.

Don’t sleep on the new LWCG waist pack. It is expensive but it’s 100 percent hand made one at a time in Utah. I have one on order to try out. I think I saw one review where it said it had a horn hunter tag on it leaning LWCG teamed up with them. But that’s a YouTube video saying that, not me.

I do run the Helicon Tex I linked above and love it. Just remember, you have to take off or spin it to the front once in your saddle.

Actually, @Fl Canopy Stalker
Maybe you can make the first butt pack saddle attachment for these guys going this direction

After going back and forth on different lumbar packs, I keep coming back to an ALICE buttpack on a MOLLE belt, a couple of canteen pouches, suspenders, etc. for still hunting. No reason I couldn't wear it over a saddle. I could probably cinch up the shoulder straps, unbuckle the belt, rig up a bridge to the belt, and wear it like a backband. Will have to play around with this.

anyone pick this pack up?
I see you can purchase shoulder straps for these as well. Looks like a good pack for saddle hunting early/mid season

Haven't owned any and don't have much of an opinion but here's a fun piece of trivia not everybody knows: Mountainsmith was founded by Patrick Smith, same guy that started Kifaru and owned it til a few years ago.
