Multi-day trip tips?

oh - and 3-4 days for 5 weeks? I salute you Sir. Never gonna happen here with a toddler.

Haha, my stepson turns 11 this December so he is a bit more self sufficient than a toddler. Also, my job is flexible enough for me to work extra other months in the year and take it easy for a while.

I, personally, think smoke is your best bet. With a little bee smoker you can smoke both your gear and yourself quickly and easily.

But if you don't want to do smoke for whatever reason, then I'd do the ozone generator to kill odors plus activated carbon or zeolite powder to adsorb them. I have just started playing with zeolite powder and can't say yet if it works as well as activated carbon, but it is a whole lot neater, that's for sure. It's kind of a tan color and doesn't stain everything like carbon does. Honestly, because it doesn't cling like carbon I kind of suspect that it is not as effective but I really need to do some tests. I know Dr. Jim (the extreme scent guy) uses it now. I bought a 2lb bag on Amazon here:

Gotta be merino baselayers for extended trips. Rotate a few pairs of boots keep the feet dry. Baby wipe baths. Accept after a few days you are going to stink a little, embrace it and move on. I'm just talking maintaining a level of cleanliness somewhere between neanderthal and hobo. Good luck avoiding deer noses or impressing ladies.

I’m skipping the merino until the temps drop!
I do have one warm season base layer with the imbedded silver polygene to reduce bacterial growth. I figure those with some mild ozone washing will keep me going for a few days.
I will definitely be swapping out underwear and socks daily though. I run a double sock on all hikes/hunts/scouting. An inner silk liner, and an outer smart wool hiking sock. I haven’t had blisters this way (dry or soaking wet) in YEARS.

Ive been considering doing something similar. An hour and half plus drive isn't much but if I can stay over night or 2 it will maximize time on ground and help me learn the area

I sold all my scent lok. Let us know how smoking works for you. I'm curious what everyone else finds.

I wear Scent- lok when it gets a little cooler and remove it as soon as I'm back to camp or truck. I put it in a separate scent=lok bag from my other sets and put on dedicated camp clothes. I use the unscented baby wipes before going in the woods. You can use a cheap garden sprayer and a kitchen sink sprayer for a cheap shower option. I spray my gear down with a scent neutralizer..

I would love to have the option of overnight stays

Between the fire dept & deer season, sleep deprivation sneaks up on me pretty quickly

I take two large water can's with me. I put them on the tool box before I go to hunt for the day. When I come back they are warm. I rig up a couple of shower curtains for privacy if I am in a primitive campground and wash down at night. Get up next day, put on scent lok suit or other clothing and hit the woods. But nothing is going to beat hunting with the wind in your favor. Their nose is designed to keep them alive!

Speaking from 34 years of experience with over 1100 nights in just one of four different truck campers. Baking Soda is the answer. It kills/neutralizes the bacteria that instantly grows in the sweat that produces foul odor. After pouring water in a small bowl, I add a generous amount of baking soda. Using a wash cloth soaked in the solution, while stripped down, I bathe myself. Without rinsing off, I dry myself with a towel then powder down with more baking soda.

I've also used the smoking down method dating back to 1973 with good results.

That’s a great idea. I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of baking soda.

I use dead down wind products on my overnights and multi day trips. My hunting clothes come off immediately at camp and go into my scent proof dry bag one piece at a time and each gets a little shake of their boot/storage powder. For my body I use their version of baby wipes before setting out in the morning.

For showers and bathing I usually use a gallon of water with a few holes in the lid, grab a towel, and wait for dark. I've done this in temps below 0, you just have to be fast.

As for clothing I just try my best to keep a routine, but it usually turns into "hunt the wind" after about 4 days.
