I got a deer yesterday and was breaking it down
I started cutting into the back straps to clean up and found this worm
Muscle worm according to QDMA and DNR
Says harmless, cook thoroughly, and enjoy the extra protein
I can’t do it
Anyone else ever see these
Deer looked really healthy otherwise

Oh hell no. My wife would lose her s**t and I'd never be allowed to have deer meat in the house again.

Never seen one before, but I don't butcher all of my deer. Maybe just 1 or 2 a year and take the rest to the processor.

I was wondering last night after the fact that I bet the butcher sees them a lot and prob never says a word
Which makes me a lil sick

Same I have butchered my own and helped on many others for at least 30 years and i have never seen one! You have probably eaten worse and did not know it though :tearsofjoy:

Well they live in the back straps most commonly according to qdma website so maybe we have eaten them but *** lol

The only “thoroughly cooked” deer meat I eat is jerky or a roast. I’ll eat blind folded if I have too, I’m not giving up my steaks!!!!

I never keep the big ones but when the big black drum are running I've seen people clean them and they will have lots of big worms inside them....and I've seen wormy hogs and rabbits but not a deer
