I bought 11mm kernmantle rope for a tether and linemans belt and 7mm bluewater for prussic. It seems like the bluewater might be a bit stiff for the application? It grabs most of the time but seems like it might possibly slip. I haven't done any real testing yet. is this combo ok or should I get something else?

It will work. You may have to do more wraps.
Try adding a fourth wrap if you have enough length.

thanks

will it soften at all with use?
It’ll soften a bit with usage. However I prefer the new stuff cordage to the worn in stuff because it is easier to make the knot slide again after being cinched. Playing with the number of wraps in a prusik is good advice. Different ropes and cordage interact in different ways so finding the “right” number of wraps for your set up so that it cinches correctly and still slides when directed is important.

You can also try or learn about more knots for your friction hitch (prusic is what you are using now). Look up distel hitch (my fav) , klemheist, schwabisch, valdontain tresse (VT). More options for friction hitches.

Let the fun and learning begin

after actually putting it on the tree and putting some weight on it I found it to work very well. Thanks for the advice though.... I will be experimenting!
