I’m sure there are a number of threads from folks much smarter than me about these topics. I’m a new saddle hunter this year being my first. I thought it might be helpful to those who come after me to post my findings. I ordered my tetherd kit in January and it arrived sometime in March. I ordered my wild edge steppes in April, and they arrived in July.

My thoughts:

1) leave yourself time to practice, these things take time to get used to and it’s going to take some tweaking

2) Speaking of practice, practice going to full height and shooting

3) Can’t claim credit for this one as I saw it on @g2outdoors YouTube video: use something to hang your platform from your lineman belt when your afixing it to the tree. I am using rubberized wire and it works great. It alllows me to use both hands to tighten the platform down. HUGE

4) Take time to figure out how to organize your gear in your pack, especially helpful when your climbing

5) Skip straight to the Ropeman. So much easier to adjust one handed at height

Last year was my newbie year and I can second all of that except the platform bit since I don't have one. Practice, practice, practice and get the Ropeman. I switched mid-season from Prussics to the Ropeman and it's much easier.

This will be my first year as well. I should be getting the items that I need within the next week to start practicing with. I think that you make some good points here. I have been doing the hang and hunt thing for awhile, and most of those things that you are saying somewhat apply to how I did my hunts. It takes some practice and familiarity with a mobile style of hunting to be really comfortable. Good luck this year and keep posting helpful learning points that you discover along the way.

This is my first year as well. For my saddle and platform already. Got some more accessories including the ropeman on the way. Excited to get my setup all ready.

6) knee pads. Apparently I’m a sitter, and they are a game changer. I got gel ones that are quiet against the tree, and can push around with out making a noise.
