My upper thread keeps twisting

Looking for some help, my upper thread keeps twisting and breaking. I’m using a schmetz serv7 size 18 and have same result with terra 40 and a tex90. I did pretty many projects with the terra 40 and this needle without any issues, I’m not sure what changed.

You may have a burr on your needle. That also just happens sometimes when sewing velcro. Try putting a piece of tissue paper over the hooks (on the velcro) to see if that helps.
