Mystery Ranch Popup 28 capacity question

Sorry I just saw you say you sometimes leave it a couple hundred yards away and the next person said they wanted to leave it at the base of the tree. I took that to mean it might be bulky or cumbersome in the tree. This was my main concern with the beefier frame vs the venture. If that's not the case then maybe I just need to try both.

It's as bulky or cumbersome as any other full size pack in a tree. I don't leave it behind every time. Sometimes. And other packs I have, I leave them behind too, sometimes.

It was just a suggestion to broaden the options for people who are sensitive to how much stuff they have with them in a tree.

The emphasis is on the pack fitting you properly. Spending hundreds of dollars on a pack that doesn't fit you or isn't adjustable is a bad idea. You're better off buying a game winner pack from academy. There's no advantage to it if it doesn't fit right. Well, I guess saying you own a popular expensive pack can win you some status.

I have mine in the tree with no issue

Got it. I mean I got the size pack for my body and tried it on at the outdoor show, though hauling a pillow around I'm sure doesn't tell too much. There's a pretty big price difference between the two and the venture isn't made for half the load hauling that the pop-up is. I will very seldom have more than 20-23 lbs so it's kinda of a case of finding a balance and prioritizing between weight of pack, load hauling ability, adjustability and price point. The venture is much cheaper, a good bit lighter and has the right straps; but limited on that once every few years I need to pack a deer out. I also got to see it before spending. I do appreciate your insight though and this will remain on my radar.

You are right, about the fitting. It was 6 backpacks I bought and sold before I stumbled across the woman's 28. None of them were short enough for my torso. This one is. Mystery Ranch built it specifically for the woman hunter.
That's a good point about scent, that I will consider. I have a few months to play with it...lol

I picked one up this year. I wanted something I could pack a whitetail out if I needed to. Unfortunately I didn’t get to do that this year but I did pack out 1 hang on and 2 sets of full length steel sticks. Total came in around 65 pounds with all the other stuff I had to hunt that day. The waist belt has something to be desired once it has that much weight in it, but it got the job done. With normal gear in it, it is very comfortable. I have been using it for fishing and snowmobiling day pack as well.

I don't know about where a bunch of you guys are hunting, but when the weather turns cold and I am carrying layers because of the temps, there is always the chance of rain or snow. With that said, my extra layers go inside to stay dry, with one layer strapped to the bottom, with no problem. I also carry a vacuum sealed pack of game bags inside as well. First aid kit and new for this year, an epi-pen in the front pocket. Top pocket has extra release, knife and tags / license / zip ties in a zip loc baggie, water and coffee in side pockets. Pack hangs in the tree with me always.

I bought a couple of the extra lashing straps with quick release buckles from MR, strap my stick to the outside.

In the pic I have 4 game bags on the load shelf, one inside the pack in a contractors bag, 2 layers inside and one strapped on the bottom. Was a mile hike back to the truck. No problem with the load.

So with the 28 are you able to put sticks on the side straps with or without anything in the load shelf?

I picked up the MR Pop Up 28 about a month ago and can't wait to use it.
I would plan on doing it similar to this.

I think the pop-up 28 is an excellent whitetail pack. It’s not overkill and you can carry quarters out if needed. I put my 4 sticks and platform on the in between the frame and pack last year and it worked great.
