I’m struggling. I spent a lot of time in my life with maps and a compass. I can’t find a single map app that does what I want.

I want to be able to use a map on my phone like I would a paper map. I want to put waypoints on a map and be able to do simple things like measure through distance and bearing between them. I want to be able to build a route on the map and see a list of bearings and distances that I can use with my compass (or the compass in the app).

I’ve come close on my old android phone but nothing on the iPhone does what I want.

Anyone have any suggestions!?!

Thanks!

OnX does all that and more. I keep a real compass on my fanny pack because I don’t trust the compass on my iPhone, but that’s not the Apps fault.

ONx doesn’t work for me. It’s not really useful for Canada and it didn’t do what I need.

Simple test. I open the app and try to make 3 points in a map and read the bearing and distance between them.

All these apps will tell you the bearing from you, right now, to a waypoint but that’s not what I want.

I want to be able to set up a route between 2 or more waypoints and then see a list of legs with bearing and distance.

I have used iHike GPS app for 4 years now. Cheap app that allows you to easily download topo maps anywhere in the US. I use hunting my home state and the mountains of Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico. I can set way points using the topo map or set way points based on current location. You can use the measure feature to measure distance and bearing from a point to point without physically being at one of the points. You can easily create routes from the way points you stored. Not everything you are wanting but seldom are things in life. the main reason I like the app is the maps are downloaded to phone and it needs no cell service to work. i have walked 3 to 4 miles in the mountains through the forest in the dark to a waterhole or saddle that I identified on the topo map and made it there and back to camp. Like all GPS apps, it will eat up battery life so I close app when not needed.

Us topo maps free demo version don't do all your wanting but the membership version should cover all your requirements
