Need Help with getting into Saddle Hunting

I am looking to get into tree saddle hunting. I am from Canada and having a hard time finding local information. I had some questions I was hoping someone could help me with:

1) Has anyone used a "Rock-climbing" harness as a cheaper option instead of a saddle? (Either on its own or with some DIY modifications done)

- I have seen some of the posts on DIY and I'm just not sure I have the ability or the skills to do that much DIY on the first saddle I use while being able to ensure I am safe.

2) Is there anywhere that a guy can buy used saddles or climbing gear? (I see there are stuff on here, but am thinking more local stores (Canada) I can maybe go in and try on and talk to someone about the gear to ensure I have a clear understanding of it.)

Thanks in advance for any input.

Welcome!

Yes. I use a rock climbing harness along with a Sit drag which is a type of sling. The sit drag is there for comfort while the rch is there for safety. It's worked well for me and only cost about $60. I bought a harness from REI on clearance.

Thanks Alud555 for the reply. I had a feeling from what I have been reading that is what the DIY guys were doing, but before I started buying a bunch of gear I wanted to double check and make sure that it would be comfortable. I knew they would be safe if done right, but I was worried about the comfort of them.

Once I'm at hunting hight none of my weight is in the harness, all in the sit drag. Good luck!
