Pulled out my old bear 60” 45lb black bear bow. I can’t pull my 55lb Bighorns any more. Happens when your a seasoned veteran (old). So I’m going with my 1972 Black Bear. String looks pretty bad. Help is needed and what to buy. Seriously gonna give it a good try next fall.
Right arrows will be my next venture for it. I have a few dozen port orford cedars laying around to be tested but one thing at a time. Thanks!

Very helpful all Thanks!!

If you want to make your own, I would be happy to mail you enough B50 to make a couple.
Thanks for the generous offer. I’ll try ordering one and see how it works. I don’t know how you message each other here. I am a little tech challenged these days lol. Thanks again!

I bought a spool of B55 from Scheels and will be experimenting with building my own strings this year. What serving material do you recommend? For a novice do you suggest endless loop or Flemish twist?

Hopefully the other guys that actually build a lot of strings will chime in here, I am just a home hack with a string jig. ;) I only build flemish and I honestly dont know what the serving is. Sine you asked I went to get my serving jig to see what the serving is and apparently my wife decided it would be a good idea to move all my string stuff. String jig in one place, spools of string in another and serving jig nowhere to be found. Sometimes I think it would just be easier to rent than own.

Hah! I tend to keep my project stuff in dedicated totes or tool boxes, for just this reason. My archery tote has been broken off into an arrow building and fletching box, which will probably get embiggened to fit a string jig or two. Knife making and sharpening is in a toolbox, leatherwork has a small tote, etc.

Back in the spring the wife took a new job that is full time remote. When that happened my office/hunting room got relocated to the guest room and she made my old room her office. I work remote part time so we cant share the same space with both of us on zoom or teams calls at the same time. So far the serving jig is the only thing I have not been able to put my hands on when I wanted too. It's here somewhere or a good reason to buy some stuff. :)
