This is what I said: "Hunters, through an excise tax on hunting equipment purchases (including firearms and ammunition) fund most of the budgets for State Wildlife Agencies by virtue of the Pittman-Robertson Act, enacted in 1937. Look it up. Hunters do more for conservation than anyone, and they do it with their hard earned dollars. Fisherman fund these conservation efforts for lakes, streams and other waterways through similar legislation. They do it when they purchase hunting equipment, and they do it when they purchase a license. They do it when they join an independent non-profit conservation organization like the National Wild Turkey Federation, Quality Deer Management Assoc., National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Trout Unlimited, Safari Club International, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Grouse Unlimited, National Trappers Association, Fur Trappers of America, etc. They do it without ever challenging this law because they love the natural resources that this funding benefits. They do it to ensure the "wise use" of natural resources, which is the definition of conservation. Please open these additional federal lands to hunters and fisherman, the ones who fund the lion share of policies and programs that manage our precious natural resources."
