Need to find a better pull up rope

I've been using this for 20+ years. The paracord will not tangle. This problem for me with paracord has always been its ability to wrap itself around any possible limb on a tree or the ground before I get to height. Over the years there have been times it got so bad I had to climb down to fix it. That happened earlier this season and I got a doyles. It works great and does not snag, but I still will not carry it on long hike and hunts due to the weight.

I had the same problem. It unwinds the last 30% up the tree and can get tangled.

I think I can picture what you mean and that’s what it looks like it’s gonna do. In the videos they are both holding the whole spool in their hand while pulling on it but not sure it would work so well attached to your belt? Maybe if it was inside some sort of “stretchy little bag” that would keep it together?...

Unless you’re supposed to leave the spool with your weapon and attached the other end on you and it unspool as you go up?

I even tried wrapping on of my wife’s hair bands around it. It worked but then just dropped to the ground

i hook one end to my pack, and one end to my bow. then i leave the figure 8 laying on the ground by the bow. it unwinds as i climb.

Never tried it, actually forgot, but this summer while weed whacking and saw how that thin slippery line just auto-magically always coils itself in a perfect small round circle. It's slick, should not snag, least don't think, and quiet. Maybe a experienced DIY'er could come up with gadget or shoot it down.

I’ve never had a problem with paracord, I wrap it up a certain way so it doesn’t tangle

Not retractable...but I've been using this for 2 years now. Very happy with it.

I hated paracord style ropes and swapped over to the Doyle’s for a few years but yearned to drop the weight. I started daisy chaining my pull-up rope last fall and it worked great. I attach the carabiner to the last daisy chain loop and wade it up and drop in my dump pouch. Never seems to tangle like before. The friction in the daisy chain stops it from unspooling unless there is weight pulling the end so I only have to re-daisy based on how high I climb that day. Now I just need to sell the Doyle’s gear hoist.

How much for your Doyle gear hoist?

What's the scoop on that treble hook @skell ?
It's just a weighted treble hook from Bass Pro. I think it is the 7/0 size. Used a side cutter to clip the points off. Filed them to round them a little more. Pinched the Barb's flat. 3 coats of plasti-dip and that's it. The cord wrap was less than a $1 at Menards.

I have had good luck with the nylon cloths line that the dollar tree sells. 30 ft for $1.

I rappel down so I hook (tie) to the tag end of my rope/tether, but sometimes use paracord as it pulls down my rope after rappeling. cold hands lend to thicker rope!

I use the Doyle’s retractable gear hoist. I found it in a video researching saddle hunting and set ups. @00:59 and again @9:54.

Been doing the paracord thumb-pinkie figure 8 for 6 or 7 seasons now without issue. tangle free and no extra weight or mechanical device to fail.

I've been daisy chaining for awhile and I think I have that exact same rope with slip-stopper from third hand archery. I can not make it look good, that is impressive.
I also keep a figure 8 loop of paracord, I have not had either tangle very often. I keep my weapon 8ft or so away from the base of the tree.

I actually use a kevlar spear gun line. It feels similar to paracord but figure 8 wrapped it has yet to become tangled. I attached a niteize gear tie to secure my weapon when hoisting.
