Hey all, just got my first deer this year and I am hooked! I got a 9 point buck for my first deer ever!

I have a ladder tree stand setup at my parents land and it works great, but I definitely don't want to have to move it as it weights a ton!

So this got me looking into tree saddles as an option! My plan currently is to read and watch a ton of videos. I do just want to try out tree saddles so want to get a rock climbing harness first with the needed materials to climb and be up in the tree safety.

Congratulations on a great first deer young man. Welcome to the site! I'm glad to see a young man like yourself showing such an interest in what seems to be a dying sport. What part of the country are you from. I'm from Maine myself. You will learn a lot if you spend some time on this forum. Do us and yourself a favor and keep safety in mind first and foremost at all times. Most of all enjoy :)

Congratz man your im sure hooked.
I would actually invest in both a light weight stand and a good ( used at first saddle setup ).
I dont care what anyone says on here you will come to find that when you go mobile you will come across situations that call for one or the other.
people are gonna try to push you to get this or that. Use both start small and simplify things dont make it complicated.
i would start with a great little saddle that is used or a new one like the treehopper recon its only 150$.
Grab a few steps and maybe a used platform.
A noob to saddles does not need to spend 4-5 and even 6 hundred dollars for a setup snd has never even seen or used one.
From same spot. Www.treehopperllc.com grab a stand from novix or lone wolf.
Great stands.they last long long time and lightweight.
Just remember not everything thst everyone uses works for all. Your gonna get a million do this snd do yhats buy this or buy that.
Find your niches and stick to what works for you.

Welcome. It is likely that there would be a saddle hunter hunter near you that might show you what they have and let you try it with them. I would recommend a shout out of where you are and that you need help. If you succeed, it could save you some time and money. And, great buck by the way.

Congrats on your buck! As you get into all this, you’ll be hard pressed to find a setup that’s more comfortable than a rock climbing harness paired with a fleece saddle. And a fleece saddle can be made for about $30.

Hey what would be a good harness to get?

Honestly, I was happiest with my Muddy tree stand harness. It has lineman’s loops unlike most rock climbing harnesses, I had one on hand, and it’s super light and quiet. Also, if you want some directions on a fleece saddle, pm me your email and I’ll send you a document I made that has some video links I used to make mine.

Welcome to the forum. With this season nearing the end I would try to attend one of the meet ups and try as many saddles as you can.
