First I want to say thank you to all the members of this forum who have been very helpful for me and many others. I have rarely seen the willingness to share knowledge and provide such beneficial information as I have here and amongst the saddle hunting community. I had grown to believe that most successful hunters kept the ideas that gave them an edge up on the competition close to chest. That has proven false here.
This is my 21st bow season and I can say it has been a VERY long time since anything in the hunting world has gotten me excited like this concept. I had heard of and seen a saddle hunting demonstration before, albeit i was a kid who had just become comfortable using a tree climber and the picture of a guy scaling a tree 40ft in maybe 5 minutes with what seemed like only a piece of rope around his waist, was a no-go for me at the time. This was before most people even knew what a safety harness was(if they even existed). Still, i have absolutely no idea how all of this slipped right under my nose for so many years.
This all started with a web search for some better shoulder straps for my summit viper...pretty much. For several years now I have become more and more unhappy with noise and weight of any kind.
So after a morning of cables clanking and hanging up on every vine, i spat out a few choice words and headed home to buy the openshot climber (trying to cut weight), some shoulder straps, and figure out how to make those summit cables quiet. I remember standing at the tree that morning thinking, "This is nearly 2020, there has to be a better way". Turns out i was right. While i was browsing Youtube i accidently forgot to click that "skip ad" button and on pops an add for a saddle. After a few videos i hear "get 30ft in half the time with half the weight"!!! DO WHAT?!?! Needless to say, after 2 trips out with the openshot, i ran back to the house to drop about $700 like it was a hot potato. Ive got my steps in and my saddle should be here any day now. Even though i love the comfort of that summit seat, i wont miss carrying those stands in and out. Good luck this season!
