Hello everyone! Thanks for adding me. I am avid deer hunter from central Arkansas. The past few years I have been steadily hunting more and more public land whether it be with a gun or a bow it its something that I really enjoy. In the past I have always hunted out of a climbing stand or on the ground. Last year sometime I stumbled upon a saddle hunting video on youtube and was blown away. Since I have been obsessed and done a fair amount of research. I have am convinced that saddle hunting is the way to go for public land hunting and am ready to invest in my own saddle hunting system. I have pretty much decided on the Tethered mantis saddle but have yet to commit to a climbing method/platform. I have went back and forth from using climbing sticks and a platform (muddy pro & predator), to climbing sticks and a ring of steps, and most recently the wild edge steps. Since I hunt public land I would like to be as light as possible while not sacrificing on comfort and of course price is a factor as well. I am wondering what hunters who are using the wild edge steps for a climbing method as well as a platform have to say for pros and cons? Also, how comfortable and effective are the wild edge steps when used as a platform? Is anyone using the SteppLadder Aider sold on the Wild Edge website and how well does this system work? I like the idea of using an aider to reduce the number of steps needed to get to hunting height. If i use the steppladder aider in conjunction with wild edge steps for climbing and a platform how many steps will i need to get to hunting height (say 20 feet) and have a adequate platform (3ish steps)?

I would appreciate any input or direction to where i can find the answers to some of my questions. Looking forward to joining the saddle hunting community!

Thanks!

Welcome, I'm from Cato.I hunt Stone Prarie WMA as well as Jack Mountain WMA. I am using the Primal steps, which are like the WE steps. I use a 5 step aider. I'm able to climb 20-21 feet with 3 steps. I use a 4th step with a plywood insert as a platform. I would be glad to meet up with you to check it out.

I would be very interested in checking out your setup. I am particularly interested in your plywood insert platform. Any chance you could post a picture?

Nice! Thanks fbwguy! I think something like that would be perfect for my application.

Hi B. It is quite possible! I'm a little further south than you though. Live around the Sheridan area and hunt public land mostly in the east and south east part of the state.

I'm mostly Trusten Holder and White and Cache River refuges.

Welcome, I'm from around the Sheridan area originally, live in bauxite currently. Hunt private and public but mostly west of benton

I am hoping to get down to Trusten Holder and the White next season. I am just getting into public land deer hunting the past couple years and have focused mostly on Bayou Meto. I am hoping going to a saddle will give me slight edge when hunting public ground. Packing a climber is getting a old.

Austin did you go to Sheridan High School? If so what year did you graduate?

The crowds are daunting at times.
