Hello all, I just joined to start my research into saddle hunting. With having to hunt public land now it is a pain hauling my climber in and out plus the fact they don't work on all trees. And being in my 50's now I am getting tired of the weight and noise associated with my climber. It looks to be a big investment out of the box but hopefully, I will be able to offset some if I sell my climber.
I am steering toward the Mantis kit since it is pretty complete and should get me started.

Welcome from Louisiana!!! The Mantis does have a large following. Trophyline is coming on strong and has discounts on their kits now. I hunt an Aerohunter Kite and like it. There are multiple options now. You should check the Saddlehunter google map for hunters near you and maybe meet up to try out there set up. Starting in February you will see different saddle paloozza type get togethers were you would also have the chance to see a lot of different saddles and climbing methods. Whatever you decide be safe and good luck.

X2 above, maybe find someone relatively close & check out their kit ( shorten the learning curve & see what you like) Welcome from Maryland!

Welcome from South Carolina. I also got tired of hauling a climbing around on public land with all that weight and bulk, so I bought a mantis and 5 wild edge stepps and a 5 step aider and I have not regretted it yet.

Welcome from "Cabot Land". I am 56 and can relate to your situation. I have made several discoveries and tried several things and decided on Hawk Helium ladders for cost, speed and ease of use and a fleece saddle with climbing harness for comfort and cost. This gets me in the tree for less cash until I decide if I want to invest in more commercial equipment. The commercial saddle I feel is best for me is the H2 saddle as it just impresses me more with its reviews from those who have tried them and the cost. The next purchase for me is the Ridge Rummer Platform so I can have more feet space to hang from. feel free to contact me or get with me if you are in the area and we can sit down a chat over a cup of coffee.

Welcome to the site from Springdale! Not sure on your body build but I have a size M mantis and predator platform you could try if you're on the fence about it.

I am a 32 waist 183 lbs so I think a medium is the size I will need when I purchase.
I have tossed the idea of using spurs, but after further research I do not want to be in the position of what to do if they get dropped so climbing sticks it will be. And of course I will look at aluminum sticks to save the weight.

Welcome. I'm 5' 11" 195 pounds size 32" pant size. I have the Aero Hunter Flex saddle in size 2. From Pocola, OK. I'm through NW AR some even more during baseball season if you want to try it.

I am sure getting to try one will make it better for me to choose.
Just the when, where and how to be able to is the big kicker. Any free time I have at the moment is spend humping my climber through the woods trying to get some meat in the freezer.

I am looking forward to the experience, it seems like it will open up basically unlimited hunting opportunities

I'm from Missouri but only about an hour from Ponca, for example. If you're anywhere near there, I come down and hike the BRT from time to time. I'd be willing to get with ya and do a little tree practice, if you'd like.
