Hey guys,

New guy here checking in from Ga. I'm a long time hunter from the north part of the state, but just now looking to get into saddle hunting. I'm very diy oriented, so naturally I'm going to start off with a climbing harness and sit drag. After reading dozens of threads on here, I went ahead and ordered what seemed to be the standard gear that most of you diy guys have been posting about. I'll add a list of what I have so far, and if anyone has any suggestions as to what else I need, or should/shouldn't do, by all means please let me know. I am very excited to drop a bunch of gear weight and be more mobile and quick with this setup!
So here is what I have so far...
- climbing harness
- locking carabiners
- ropeman 1
- 11mm static rope for tether and lineman belt
- 7mm rope for prusic knots etc..
- tubular webbing to rig up the lineman belt to harness

I still havent decided how I want to climb, but I am thinking i may get a set of pole gaffs.. open to other suggestions but I want to keep it simple and quick.

What else do I need?? And does anyone have any suggestions for a new guy just getting into this? I have climbed before and am somewhat familiar with how things work.. but I havent ever tried to incorporate any of it into hunting.
Thanks for all of the info and help already posted up here, and i look forward to learning and perfecting this new method!

There's a bunch of info in the newbie pages and online. I'm new to this too. I'm not sure as to the diy stuff. If your looking to make a saddle there's some great videos on YouTube for that.

Where in GA are you? I live just north of Atlanta.

Make sure you replace the stock bridge. You can use tubular webbing for that also.

Thanks for the info and welcome. I actually forgot to mention that I ordered some 1/4" amsteel blue that I was going to make my bridge out of. I also have plenty of spare tubular webbing and rope if that would be a better option? I just want to keep it lightweight and simple.

I live in alpharetta. How about you?

I'm putting my gear together and yes. I never leave the ground without my harness. I did however find out that my regular harness has loops for the lineman's belt. I have a gorilla harness.

Marietta, Kennesaw, Woodstock corner. Basically the corner of highway 5 (Canton RD) & 92.

Welcome to the forum! I live in Woodstock, myself. Now that we've got a few local guys, we should meet up sometime. It would be a good chance to check out different gear, and it's always nice to meet likeminded hunters.

I've got an XL Mantis with all of the goodies. Well, waiting on a few goodies, but they'll be here soon. I use Wild Edge Stepps with a Knaider/Swaider setup, and I climb with spikes on private land.

I'm right down the street from you
