I’ve have been lurking on here for awhile taking in a ton a great information. I primarily hunt on New Jersey public land and have been using a mobile run and gun technique for years. The last several I have been using a lone wolf stand and sticks but the bulk and weight especially when hunting areas that require a long walk and a kayak has been a pain in the butt. I am leaning towards the new mantis for its lightweight and minimal bulk. For climbing I already have my lone wolf sticks with rope mods but I believe the real benifit of saddle hunting is a true lightweight minimalistic approach. That is where I believe the wild edge steps come into play. I know spurs seem great but I also hunt out of state. Several questions.
1. I plan on using the Cain method. I am 6’2”. Would you go with a set of 10 for climbing and platform? I normally hunt 20’+-
2. Can you use the Cain method on a tree that you have to start climbing on one side of the tree but kind of snake around the tree where you want to end up? If that makes sense.
3. What about trees with vines on them. Does that make it hard to use the steps?
4. Where do you guys clip in using the Cain method with your saddles?
5. I’m 6’2” 225 lbs and in decent shape from working out. What size Mantis saddle?
Thanks for bearing with me. I will prob have tons more questions.

Welcome! I can't answer any of those questions, lol. I got 10 WE stepps, and I plan to use swaider/kaider and don't think I will have any issue getting to whatever hunting height I want, even close to 40' if needed. I'm not going to use my WE stepps for a platform, I will carry a platform.

Check out the new saddle hunter section if you haven't already. Glossary so you understand the lingo and noobie advice/info, which is a good overview if you haven't already!

Welcome! Where at in NJ?
1. I think 10 should work. I'm short and 6 stepps will put me around 18-20 feet with the cain method.
2. Haven't tried this but as long as you're not making any drastic turns from stepp to stepp it should work.
3. Shouldn't be a problem, you just don't want the points of contact on the stepp to be on the vine.
4. I was fooling with this the other day. I put an adjustable bridge after trying to use a small temporary bridge. After doing that I realized it may work but just tightening the lineman's belt that I'm already carrying up all the way.
5. At least a large or XL. @BassBoysLLP is probably close to you in size and can chime in.

Agreed L or XL. I've only tried the L and it was great. I plan on trying the XL shortly.
