How is this any better than having a pull up rope, I’m curious? My rope packs very well and I can stuff it anywhere. I don’t think I would have the space for a Tupperware top sized retractor.
I like my doyles because I find it more convenient. I'm not having to play out or wind up and there is no slack as I climb to get caught up on anything. The mount on the back of my saddle(it's the only thing that I attach to my saddle) is out of the way, easy to reach and it doesn't interfere with my pack. As long as I remember to put my saddle on I don't have to wonder where it is. The only thing I pull up is my bow so I got the rope style and have no regrets. Weight wise it's not even noticeable and it's modest bulk compared to a pull up rope is negated by it's carrying position on my saddle. Also the way I have it mounted eliminates the thing hitting me in the ass when I walk. All in all it's a convenience upgrade for me.

I got the strap version as a Christmas gift years ago. It’s attached on the right hand side of my saddle and I use it to pull up bow and/or rifle. It works great, never had a rope version, so I can’t compare.

If anyone know man where a feller could find one of these Doyle strap hoist let me know. I’ve been looking for a while.

This is the only piece of gear that I haven't changed out since I began saddle hunting. This thing just works for me. It's a Hawk braid hoist and at under $3 it could just as easily go in the Cheap Things That Work thread. I hook it to the back of my saddle and leave it there. Its the only thing that rides on my saddle. Hook the mini biner to the bow and it pays out line as I climb but only as much as I climb. The line doesn't free spool off it and it doesn't hang up as I climb.
