New Saddle Hunter Tether Questions

I am a new hunter, last year, and ripped the bandaid and ordered a mantis. I had planned to use the HSS safety line and linesman belt I purchased last year. After reading some on here I am hesitant to use them. If I go with the sterling OpLux I have see recommended here can I just tie a figure 8 loop to girth hitch to the tree? Also, would this make s good rope for a linesman belt as well? Finally, could you recommend lengths to purchase.

Yes to question one and use a figure 8 on a bite. Yes to question 2. As far as length it depends on what length you want your tether and lineman. I would suggest if you are going to use it for both a tether and lieman to set the ropes up both exactlly the same in terms of length and loop size. That way you never have to guess which is which, they would be interchangeable for either task.
