I looked into saddles hard a few years ago and decided to finally give it a try. With my research then I was going with the Cruzr XC and unless I find other information that’s what I’m getting in the spring. What I have been doing is researching platforms and many have said larger is better for new hunters, so between that and my size 13 boots it seems to me the Mission platform would be a good choice. Any comments would be appreciated.

Welcome! I'm similar to you in that I'm literally just starting with saddle hunting (I've been in the tree 3 or 4x so far with my saddle and none hunting yet). For that very reason, I can't give you a lot of advice on what you'll like, but I didn't mind just keeping my feet on the top of my sticks for shooting (archery) - and I also have large feet. For that reason, I'm starting with a ROS and will see how it all goes from there. There are lots of experienced guys here who can (and I'm sure will) give you lots of good advice; ultimately, it's what you're comfortable with and can afford. Best of luck to you!

Welcome! And bigger isn’t always better. It’s a matter of playing with the different sizes. I’ve tried most of them and I still go back to the original size Tethrd platform. It’s all personal preference. Good luck!

I will start big and if things work out I can always buy a smaller lighter one later. Once I get one to practice with I think I will quickly learn what I want. I figure as long as I buy name brand I can always sell what I don’t like. I’m pretty confident on the Cruzr XC saddle though.

Come to the light, the JX3 tree saddle light..............
Don't be afraid, you will sit from dark to dark very comfortably, no fidgeting, be able to snooze when you want, no dreaded hip pinch, no back aches, you can shoot 360° around the tree with any weapon, bow or gun, no weak side shot.
No platform required, only a ROS, or a JX3 wide top climbing stick, no sore feet, no knee pads required, no sore knees, no tired legs from leaning as you can sit all day, built in pack frame for carrying all your needs. No getting into “saddle shape” as your Lazy Boy at home does it for you. Buy once, cry once.

If I wanted one of those I would just stay with my tree stand, it’s a tree stand on a rope. I am wanting something smaller and lighter.

I use cheap platforms and set of Hawk ROS. I got them Amazon. On the platforms I just replace the post rubber washers with nylon washers and add a shaffer cam cleat for attachment. I personally prefer ROS or the smaller platform. If you are just getting into saddle hunting you can do it without spending much. I would also consider 2T/Cing cheaper than buying sticks and much lighter as well as safer to climb.

I just signed up to the forum last week. I tried out the XOP mondo this fall and regretted it. I will be soon ordering a CGM Cobra. My reading frequently has the Cruzr and Cobra being closely compared. I would consider giving CGM a look also. I am also choosing the ROS approach for a bit more flexibility to move around the tree if off side opportunity arises. My two cents from a guy who hasn’t actually been out much.
