As far as getting the rope down I use 1.8mm dynaglide. Very little stretch if any at all. Key in tuff pull downs is to walk away from the base of the tree. Wrap the pull down rope around a stick to create a handle and just pull. I’ve yet to have a time I couldn’t pull down the rappel rope. I rappel with a safeguard
 
Maybe the doyles hoist has too much stretch to the rope. I do walk away from the tree and that helps a ton.
