New Varmint Killing Machine

This M&P Sport has been my "workhorse" for groundhogs, this year. I switched from the HoloSun red dot to a Sig Sauer 4-12x50 Whiskey 3 scope, for more precision shots. This scope has a tiny red dog in the crosshairs too.

I've killed 24 g-hogs, so far and 19 of them have been with the M&P Sport.
The other 5 were with my Savage 22-250.

Not trying to derail all the great shooting your doing but…If you could only have one, which gun would you choose? Yes, it may be an obvious answer considering the number of kills with the sport but it is new and that may be a factor.
Is the 22-250 a longer distance gun?
Can you tell I’m wanting to try something with a silencer for pests also, heck maybe even for a Georgia swamp hog.
Thanks, if you need me I can be found on the support thread.

The 22-250 is a much longer range weapon. I know a few folks who shoot coyotes out to 500 yards with them.

I've shot groundhogs as close as 20 yards with the 22-250 and it really splatters them....not that it matters. However, I use it for longer range shots, out to 500 yards. The suppressor tames it down to where it sounds like the air brakes being set on a semi or an air chuck being removed from an air line. I've killed coyotes in pairs because their buddy got killed with the first shot and they heard it, but wasn't sure where it came from and the second coyote ran almost directly at me.

There's no 1 rifle for everything, in my opinion. I like the M&P Sport because of how quiet it is around buildings. I've shot multiple g-hogs in and around the same house/barn, because they didn't hear it or the sound didn't warrant enough of an alert. Just the same, I usually shoot these groundhogs 2 or 3 times (head shots if possible), to make sure they stay down and dead. The killing power isn't the "Hammer of Thor" by any means.

If you're thinking of wild hogs and/or deer, you're definitely going to want to look into a 300 Blackout or something similar. There are several YouTube videos on guys using sub-sonic ammo loads with heavy bullets for hogs and deer with great success. There are several caliber choices too. So, don't get stuck on just the 300 B.O. There's the 458 SOCOM, 8.6 SOCOM, 308 and several other calibers. The whole "secret" is using heavy bullets to help keep the speed below 1100 fps. Of course, "rainbow" trajectory is going to be an issue, but as long as shots are inside 100-150 yards, it's all good. :)

Great information!!!
Looking for my first one to be kind on ammo prices, so I don’t cringe every time I shoot a box of shells. Haven’t priced the 22/250 ammo or gun….yet. ;>)

Picked this up a few weeks ago in 308, with the can on it and subsonics its quiter than my 300 black out. My 6 year going to get his first deer this year with it.

That's a sweet looking setup!!! What bullet weight/type/brand are you loading?

I may end up trying some sub-sonic loads with my Ruger American 450 Bushmaster.
I'm currently running a 250 gr. Hornady FTX JHP bullet at 2550 fps. Very accurate out to 200+ yards and I've never lost a deer with it. Running sub-sonic loads might ruin the long range capability....or not. I'll have to do some research on the matter.
