I am new to saddle hunting. I haven't even seen a saddle in real life, although I do have one on order. I have been researching this style of hunting for over a week, and can't decide on the ring of steps or a platform. The question I have is when hunting with a platform (like the predator), can you put a couple of steps (like bullmans) on the predators strap? I would think that this might give the hunter, the best of both worlds (platform & ring of steps).

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Yes, a platform with steps on the strap is fine though it's typically overkill unless you have a larger tree. Occasionally, I add a step to my platform but usually just set my platform level with the top of my stick, just in case. Usually don't need to take advantage of it.

Anyway, platform or ROS? Only you can know.

Another upside of this web site is the classifieds. Buy both, practice on both, hunt on both and then sell the one you don't like. This is my first year in the saddle. I bought both and have gone straight platform. I tried the step on the strap too, but haven't needed it and stopped even taking them in the woods. I wear size 15 boots and my boots never felt comfortable on the steps.

I am planning on mostly gun hunting from the saddle, and was thinking that if a deer came from the direction the platform was facing that I wouldn't have anything to brace my shot, but if I could just swing around behind the tree. I could use the tree as a brace.

I have done what your are describing with my WE steps and the perch, works great. As stated above can be a bit of overkill though. It's my first year as well and I have had alot of sits with and without a platform. The one thing I can say is get a platform doesn't matters who's it makes a world of difference. I have only used the perch, but it makes a all day sit a totally different experience. Oh and knee pads or a knee mat get one of those too, I got a cheap pair at HD fo now, plan on upgrading next season.
