Nite Ize alternative

Rather than spending six dollars for two little Nite Ize gear ties, by 25 feet of the hawk rubber wire for the same price
Exactly what I did. Cut with pliers. You can also buy them off Wish for a ton less is ou want finished lengths.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing. I was dreading having to go buy the nite ize because they are so expensive.

Walmart lowes and the home depot all sell rubberized wire in a large quantity. The niteize uses a heavier wire i think

I got the hawk wire in today. This is in no way shape or form as good as the nite-ize. It's not as thick and the wire cones out of the rubber way too easy. Guess that's what I get for being cheap.

bend it over so the wire end is “finished” worked great. It’s a wire for christ sake

Of course it's wire. But if you want a stiff wire and end up with a limp one...it's still clearly not as good and not suitable for all of the same uses. It's up to you to decide how much stiffness/robustness you need or are willing to pay for.

Ohhh it sounds like you got the thinner wire bud. They have 2 thicknesses

I don't have either to be honest, although I've handled it before - mostly I was just a bit taken aback by a reply that seemed sorta "grow up it's good enough" to someone who'd tried your substitute and found it lacking.

I have a few gear ties that I occasionally use. They're overpriced, but deliver on stiffness (so don't need to twist them much to secure them) and integrity. I don't use a ton so I'm set for now, but always looking for options for future projects.

Romex can find it laying around for free ( anything you get for free is worth saving up for )

That was my thought too. I was just gonna ignore it because sometimes we take things different than the guy meant it. Either way, the hawk wire sucks in my opinion.

I was thinking the same thing. Nobody said it was "better" but its absolutely just as functional. It twisted and bent and held my sticks and platform to my backpack just fine and a s**t ton cheaper.

We hang from trees i $200 diaper from $100 ropes, and spend as much or more getting up there. We're not gonna go broke on gear ties. If someone likes what they do - that's up to them

On further thought i use hawk handy-twist ties. They're fine for me, not perfect, and god knows I've spent more on smaller improvements. I agree the hawk wire is probably fine (plus you can choose the length freeky!) But I'm not gonna crap on people who want something a bit better.

Nobody "crapped" on anybody, at least that's not how I read it. It's just funny that even on a discussion about rubber wire someone can get offended. Sorry if I offended, there was no "crapping" meant. Have a good day.
