No WE platform, at least for this season

I have a friend who uses the WE stepps. After seeing a couple of board prototypes I contacted WE about the possibility them producing a platform for their stepps. This may old news to some, but following is the response I got from them today.

"Hi,
Thanks for the email and your interest in our products. We also apologize about the delay.
At one point, as you mentioned, Andrew was toying with the idea of creating a Wild Edge platform. However, as he is constantly in the woods trying to perfect his style, he realized by creating a platform he would be adding just one more thing he would need to carry into the woods - adding to the overall weight of his Run-n-Gun bundle. Instead, what he uses are 3 to 4 Stepps (depending on the size of the tree) to place around the tree, so he can be mobile, 360 degrees. On top of that he is not adding another piece to carry into the woods, except a few more Stepps.
I know he hasn't ruled it out completely though, as he creates several different prototypes - but for this season, at least, we are not offering a Wild Edge platform.
I hope this helps to clarify things, and we do apologize if you were holding off for one with us. Keep checking in though to see what else we are putting out there!
Good luck this season!
All our best and Live Wild!
Sonny"

I'm disappointed because I keenly anticipated what WE would deliver in the way of a steppladder platform. I agree, however, that it makes perfect sense. It would be hard to improve upon the product they already provide, which I plan to use in conjunction with the Predator platform.

Hm... I already ordered the Predator platform, but like with saddles, it's good to have choices/competition. That said, I think it will be hard for anybody to be able to make a lighter/more compact option for stand and pivot.

You can always run with it yourself. It looks like a reasonable easy diy. The concept of the stepp platform is all laid out in the 1993 patent paperwork.

For someone my size I don’t see the stepp add on platform as ever being an option. I tried the plywood before trying to build an aluminum model and am glad I did. There is just too much leverage with weight that far from the stepp. The standoffs pull away from the tree leaving the single bottom pivot point. I did use three stepps as a ring of steps last year and it worked great. I’ll be able to compare it to the predator sometime after June 42nd. For the guys under 200lbs I can see an aluminum platform attaching to the wild edge step being easy enough. You would have to be really good at getting the stepps cammed over tight. I had never seen the platform @BassBoysLLP mentioned is in the 1993 patent. I looked it up. I think if the concept worked well we would have already seen it. I’m a stepp fan. If most of the weight chasers on here would get a set of stepps and stick with them for a season we wouldn’t have all of the 1.3 lb stick talk. I just don’t think they will ever serve as a means of attaching a platform

Link? Digging up those patents can be cumbersome. But if you already did the work for us...

Although my lack of experience of actually using a saddle is probably the reason....I don't understand why everyone is wanting to use platforms?? All this concern I see about weight and having less stuff to carry, etc it doesn't make a lot of since. Is it that difficult or uncomfortable to use a few step ladders as a "platform"? Just from an outside perspective it would seem theses weld edge steps would be the simplest way to go, one bag, one product, for step and platforms, no pieces of wood to fumble with, etc.

Less movement shooting to the weak side and directly behind you. Easier to hunt leaning trees.

This subject comes up repeatedly. I'm sure you can find several dozen threads on platforms vs. ring of steps vs. combination of both.

Glad I didn't wait for this. It's a little disappointing because Andrew had posted about a platform coming out in a few weeks back before the pai predator was released. Maybe cold feet or maybe he wasn't that close. I like the steps but not as a platform. After attaching two steps at the same height I always struggle

Some people like platforms, some don't. Everyone likes something different.

I just made my own WE platform out of hardwood. Cost me $15 and it locks down on the tree. Weighs about a lb. I'll post it when I'm done and give a demo.

I got my WE stepps yesterday. It took a couple tries to get the hang of them but they do lock down tight and don’t budge. I got them thinking that’s all I would need. After using them I can see why the platforms are used. I think I’ll also be ordering a predator.

Thanks for the heads up everyone. The new Predator appears to be the ticket. Ordering one tomorrow.

I'd much rather use a platform over steps in my setup. Steps are way too uncomfortable on my feet.
