I finally broke the dry spell on harvesting a mature buck.Nov. 3rd. Sitting in the timber along river bottom 50 yds. from bedding area.
I got to stand 40 minutes before 1st light and had only seen a small 4 pt. around 8:15. At 8:30 I dec idea to rattle and grunt to see if
I could produce some action. About 10 minutes later after glassing the bedding area seen a nice mature buck stand about 5 yds. inside
heavy cover. I watched him with bow in hand for about 7-8 minutes and when he did not see any other bucks fighting he turned and
headed back into cover. I hit two soft grunts followed by a snort wheeze and as I turned to put grunt call down he appeared and started
moving outside cover and came to 25 yds. broadside. That was his last mistake !. I shot him 8:47am using Hoyt Carbon Defiant @ 63#
28.5 " draw, day six arrow w/QAD Exodus 125 gr. fixed broached, total arrow weight 542. Shot punched through rt. shoulder and busted
thru and broke opposite leg, hit rt lung and top of aorta. he ran approx. 170 yds and expired. I believe he is 3 1/2 yrs old, field dress at 189lbs.
If I could figure out how to post picture without picture file being too large I would appreciate any help !

Thank you, hunting public land it's not easy to bag a mature buck !
It's been a true struggle at times but it sure is sweeter when all the hard work pays off !
I thank people that I've learn from over the years, hunting beast, the hunting public,
hunting feind, don higgins, jeff sturgis and all the other buck killers that have taken
their most precious resource - their time to produce podcast / videos to track there
hunts and experiencing to educate other !

Congrats! Nice buck!!! Great work !!
Thank you, the public piece I am hunting is only 2200 acres and there is only around 60 people hunting it.
A 1/3 hunting only the firearm season and another 1/3 only hunt on weekends. Being retired I can hunt any day
and hunting Monday thru Thursday many times there is only myself and 2-3 others hunting.

Good luck, scout the transition areas around any marsh/swampy areas or where really thick vegetation
areas meet timber for rubs & scrapes. If you know where bedding areas are or find them during scouting
and find travel corridors in and out and setup close to those. Thanks !

Congrats on the buck, and most of all thank you for your service!
Thanks for the kind words. Proudly served 84'-88' with Fighter Squadron VF-114 Naval Air Station Miramar, S.D Ca.
Some of the greatest memories of my life ! Working on F-14 Tomcats and trouble shooting for launch onboard CVN-65
USS Enterprise. I searched for something to create the adrenaline I experienced while launching and recovering aircraft
working 12-14 hrs days after leaving the Navy. Settled on being a firefighter/paramedic for my home town. It was a different
adrenaline rush-last 26 years with the last 12 years servicing as Lieutenant. Now the Rush comes from chasing whitetails
in the woods !
Tomcat motto - "Anytime baby " !
