OCB On Platform??

I’ve got the original Predator from Tethrd, and it has treated me well! But, I’m a tinkerer. I thought I might try an OCB strap to streamline my set up process. Now, I have very little experience using OCB straps, except on my boat, so I have a few questions.

1. Has anyone tried this?

2. Is this be a viable option?

3. Would it make my platform easier to set up, and get tight like I think it might?

4. If you have tried it, what strap/buckle did you use? And where did you get it?

I’m not sure it improves or streamlines anything. Those platforms get tight by cam action of the teeth on the platform. You actually risk breaking the platform by getting the strap too tight. It doesn’t allow the post to rise as the platform cams.

what are you trying to accomplish by making the switch? Not general terms like “streamline”, but actually, what physical result are you trying to achieve with a swap in strap types?

My main goals are easier and faster set up. If I’m being completely honest, there is not much to gain… like I said, I can’t help but tinker and try new things.

I’d stay away from that , no real weight gain & you very well may break your platform. If you wanted to tinker with a timber hitch or something maybe a case could be made……but that’s purely for the hobby side of this. I stick with the cam strap. @boyne bowhunter you still roping on or cam buckle????

Still timber hitching my platforms. For me its the quickest and, more importantly, quietest way to attach.

I've been using the amsteel guy U.S.A. on my ridgerunner to eliminate any buckle what-so-ever. Quick and easy setup. Very light and packable. Might be a better option for platforms and it allows proper cam over action.

I'm using an 1/8" amsteel daisy chain on my Cruzr Seeker. I hated the cam buckle strap. I made the daisy chain myself and made a loop on one end just big enough to go over the button on the platform. I wrap it around the tree and go around the button then pull it tight then go back around the tree and loop the nearest loop over the button before setting the platform. Doing it this way helps hold the platform where I want it and makes it easier to hook the nearest loop onto the button without holding onto the platform. Seems to work fine and the amsteel is a lot lighter and quieter than the buckle and strap.

Are you able to get it as tight as you could the a cam strap, 7mmremmag?
It does not get as tight on it's own as the cam strap but by pulling down to set the platform and then camming it over, its then just as tight as when I used a strap. Then I just cam it back up and unset to release one loop and work the prusik loose for next time. The little bit of extra care needed to make sure it cams over correctly is more than worth the weight and potential noise savings. You really don't want the platform to be OCB tight like a ring of steps. It needs to set into the tree. For example, if the strap is too tight on a ridge runner, it will not fully cam over and allow all the teeth to dig into the tree. ROS's doesn't cam over on their own, which they benefit from the cam action on the strap itself to hold tight.
