OCB vs. Ratchet

I would say try both and see which one you prefer.

For me its a trade off between potential noise and some added elbow grease to get things tight. You can ratchet silently it just takes a little attention to detail. Also your ratchet is going to weigh more.

When I used a ROS I tried both and settled on OCB (boat buckle). However, if there was any loose bark, irregular bark I always had a problem with shifting steps when weight was taken on/off them and neither one really solved that issue. I crap canned them (ROS) as soon as Klemz came out with his DIY platform and I have never looked back. I SOMETIMES will set 1 step off to each side of my current platform (predator) using an OCB on very large trees - but I am not standing on them and stepping on/off to cause the problem mentioned above. I set them, and then I may use one of them if I need to move a bit to get full 360 shooting and it is a one and done thing. 99% of the time my platform opens up 360 shooting for me and thus there is no need. Over the years I was using them, I lost at least three shooting opportunities due to a ROS shifting as I was moving into position - that was enough for me to say BYE BYE as soon as a better mousetrap was built..

When I use my ameristeps I go ratchet l. I hate the squishy feeling of Ocb but maybe my ocb wasnt the best. I usually ratchet slow and place my hat or beanie and hand over to mute it. I’ve ratcheted then and had deer 60 yds from me never care. However I can say the Ocb is lighter and easier

I have anti-reverse on some fishing reels that is silent. Too bad we can't get heavy-duty ratchet straps with that feature.

Ratchets are for people who shake their weiner more than 3 times after they pee.

Seriously, an OCB is lighter, quieter, and gets a ROS just as tight as a ratchet.
I actually watched your video on YouTube this morning on this subject.

Anyone got a source for an already sewn OCB with strap? Looks like Eastern Woods is out of stock right now.

At least in my area, on the trees I hunt I have no need for a ratchet.
