I shot recurves for several years before my 1st compound bow. My best shooting was done when I released immediately upon full draw. It was one smooth motion draw & release. Like batting in baseball, there are some fundamentals but enough wiggle room for personal style. I researched Howard Hill many years ago for an article on “A History of the Bow.” He was an interesting character, he shot phesant & duck on the wing, killed 3 elephants, and shot a prune off of a friends head in the William Tell re-enactment. He routinely shot a 115 lb. longbow of his own design and build.

It’s funny. I string walk using my arrow tip as a sight. When I’m shooting bad I try to totally ignore my arrow and my groups tighten back up. The brain does some amazing things.

When I was working with my stick as s young guy I would go out 30 yds. Then the eyes and bifocals cams into play. I would not go over 20 yds anymore.

I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Grosscup and seeing him shoot his bow on many occasions at Addington’s bow shop. Frank Addington Jr. is carrying on the tradition of this great archer.
