One stick climbing method

For the guys single sticking do you prefer a 2nd tether or a linesman belt for going around limbs?

I use my linesman rope (8mm Oplux) which is girth hitched and daisy chained on my left linesman loop at all times. When I get to a limb I hook up linesman rope, move tether past limb, unhook linesman and continue up.

It looks like you've got too much slack in the rope hence why the stick is down so far. Once at hunting height try to place the rope tight around the tree and perpendicular to the stick. Then when you slide it down to lock it in place it will have minimal slack and movement. A second rope mod near the bottom of the stick would probably help minimize the kick out, again only used once at hunting height.

In the photo, yes, theres a lot of slack. The kickout happened with not nearly that much. It could’ve just been a odd spot on the tree that was just a little off kilter.

That’s what I figured. I suppose I could just add my versa button and daisy chain back on but at the bottom of stick. It wouldn’t add any weight really and would be worth it, if it secures it better.

Aider suggestions?
I’ve tried a few and not sure what I like best. I’ve tried Amsteel spliced as a dogbone with a piece of tubing, looped over the top. Not a big fan. Kinda bulky and tends to want to kick out. View attachment 25706
And, I’ve tried just a piece of webbing looped over the bottom step with a cobra weave to make it easier to get my foot in. This seems to be okay but hanging from the bottom of the stick, it wants to pull my stick bottom away from the tree making the whole thing kinda unstable.

I’ve seen tons of options, techniques, materials, how it’s attached, etc. Is there a thread where all this is sort of compiled? Or, what’s everyone’s thoughts? What’s your go-to? I’m really more comfortable with a single step aider. I’ve got a 4 step rock climbing one and it terrifies me.
Hooking your aider on the bottom standoff will make the stick more stable. When you hook it above your attachment point on the tree any offset of the aider tends to want to "flip" the stick over. Hooking the aider below the attachment point tends to pull the entire straight down and limits the tendency to rotate the stick. It's just a more stable configuration.

Thanks for the input. If y’all can’t tell from my posting history, I’ve gone full blown addict. The missus and bank account agree.

Damn, this must be “Make Dalton nervous day”

First there’s a simple over hand stopper knot at the very end of an amsteel bridge and now this.....

At least when the stick comes loose you should be attached to the tree.

I know right, just look at all those holes with no bolts in them.

Wait what? The rope is just the old daisy chained amsteel I had leftover from when it had a versa button on it. That’s just what I had handy to strap it on. Not what I’d climb with. What’s wrong with the old holes? Oh, you mean adding two more bolts on the platform? Yeah I gotcha.

Whew! Much better. He’s just picking on me about the holes

Yeah, I have 10' of 6mm TRC that I use. Just hadn't gotten it in at the time of photo.

Ah, I see. I'll still probably put two more bolts in there if it isn't too close and looking like it'll weaken the main frame.

Tie your rope to the stick using a poachers knot and you can ditch that bungee.
