One Stick Repelling What Rope?

I prefer static for rappelling.

It's easier to buy by the foot. Typically you only need 35-45ft for our hunting applications. It's also typically less expensive when you break it down per foot.

It has less stretch so there's less"bounce" in the process. Also it's going to be tensioned the whole time that you're rappelling so there's no risk of a dynamic shock load which is the whole point of using dynamic rope.

Now comes the harder question . . .deciding which static rope is for you?

This oplux 8mm is what I run. Light weight and strong. I’m 230. I run 35’.

What belay? Most mentioned on this site recommend larger than 8mm and do you use the belay like you would a ropeman or prussic knot or switch out for the repel?

madrock safeguard. Most will say not to do this bc it’s out of spec for the 8mm. Assume at your own risk. I know a lot of people run this. I’ve run it all year zero problems. I’m not a small dude either lol I believe you can run a Beal jammy on the oplux for a pusik. But if your one sticking repel is the only way and the madrock is the best. Super small can definitely run larger rope in it too.

60' oplux either girth hitched (with retriever line) or over a crotch or branch around the tree. That gives me a double rope to use with a double ATC or rescue 8. The hollow block is biting on two ropes for the autostop, so no issues there. Also, easy to take down when over a branch. I like the extra length of rope and it does not take much more space in a fleece pouch.
