My current climbing method/platform is pretty slick and I have gotten quite used to using it. My current setup: Modded Summit Viper climbing platform. I hunt the northeast, so straight trees are the norm. My platform weighs around 9 pounds, but it is the climbing method as well.
The weight is a reason for wanting to change, as well as the platform is a bit noisy while climbing. I'm afraid that is going to catch up to me at some point. Of course, I'm trying to shave as much weight as possible for my 2 plus mile treks into where I hunt. I recently purchased a primal step and made a small platform for it out of 3/4" plywood (I feel safe and confident with it, thank you for your concerns though) I also recently purchased a single lone wolf 32" stick. This brings my weight down at a minimum of at least 5 pounds.
For those who have cut them down, is 24" the standard to cut it to? while practicing, I find myself not even stepping on the top step to slide my tether up the tree because I wouldn't be able to reach the rope while hanging from my tether. I am short at 5'6". Would cutting the stick down help with this? I'm only gaining a few feet per advancement of the stick. Is this not a good method for those vertically challenged? I only used a one-step aider to practice with before spending money on a 2 or 3 step aider.

Would cutting the stick down help with this?

Thanks!
