One sticking without Madrock

A method to stop in midair is to not load up the hitch, but instead, pull down on rope to lock it in the ATC, lift a knee up and wrap the rope around your leg a couple times, then lower your leg to keep tension and hold your position. Pinching the rope after wrapping between the feet holds some more.

Thanks @gcr0003 that makes sense. I might try the Stitch after this season. It doesn’t look impossibly complex to tie but I do think I’d need to tinker with it to dial it in for me. Too much to change right before the season starts on Saturday.

I tried a prussic and hated it. It was doable but not fun. I ran a figure 8 to rappel when I was done and moved the prussic to my lineman’s loop. I was going to try a swabisch with a tender but got surprised with a madrock for Christmas and never looked back.
I also used a figure 8 until I got a madrock. It works great and is small enough to carry as a back up. I just put a hitch in mine to lock it in and ditched the prusik all together.

The ATC take off just enough tension on the rope for the hitch to slide really smoothly. And it tend the hitch really well. I realized that the JRB hitch basically does the same thing as the ATC, but to this day I can't tie it efficiently and I don't think its a smooth as this setup. But the JRB is very clever, too clever for me. I can tie a Michoacán and slap the ATC in no time and no fear of messing up somewhere.

Tried this. The only thing I dislike is the account clanks on the carabiner every time you take up slack. I guess some felt would stop it, but not sure how long it would last.
