OnX GPS chip question

Have two new Garman GPS units (son and I).
I see OnX currently has ..

onX Hunt Single State Chip + 1-Year App Membership Combo
$119.99

Is the state chip only good for 1 year also? How do you get updates for the chip (I am assuming the chip is good for life with free updates).

Also, can I swap the chip between the two units or is it registered to a specific GPS unit.
 
i don't use one but have been looking into getting a GPS, based on what i read here: https://onxmapssupport.zendesk.com/...-the-onX-Hunt-Chip-and-how-much-does-it-cost- and here: https://onxmapssupport.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115006042148-How-to-update-your-onX-Hunt-Chip it looks like you can update the map as much as you want the first year, but then after that you have to pay for a membership to update, so it looks like the maps will still work with onx layers, you just run the risk of information getting outdated.
