So there I was. In the beautiful weather. Fresh snow all around me. Gun shots heard from all directions. It was beautiful…..until.

Around 3:00pm I start hearing human voices. Loud and overt. Almost like two hunters fighting. Up over this trail that is several hundred yards away is a group of college age kids yelling and playing music etc intentionally loud. I’m guessing they are from Green peace or some form of that and they were just walking through the public trails making as much noise as possible.

I love public land.

I haven’t hunted opening day down south in 15 years, last time I did it was absolute madness and that was when everything was shotgun only, people shooting an hour early, flashlights going through woods in all directions, if you shot something and it didn’t drop before your eyes you were completely screwed somebody would fight for it, crazy, I feel for ya, it didn’t matter either how deep I hunted somebody would be next to me when the sun came up.

I hunted a place in Pennsylvania like that one year. Never again. It felt dangerous and I left. Did not feel comfortable at all.

Went to a different area today. 75 percent of the people are gone. So it’s much nicer now. Monday is supposed to be cold so that should make some of them quit also. I went so deep today I crossed a stream in my boxers and barefoot just because I knew nobody else would. Saw four does (you’re welcome) but I don’t have a doe tag. Then it started raining and snowing so they probably bed down and I came out. Monday is my last day up here then back to archery in upper SC.
