Opening day what the heck!

Opening morning I had a weird experience in the woods
I was hunting the side off a ridge with a slight NNE wind. I had what I assume was a doe blowing in the NNE direction, one blowing from the NNW direction and I had 2 doe under my tree blowing. The doe i could see appeared to be looking to the doe in the NNE direction. she would blow and start eating every few seconds. She seemed to be paying no attention to me or blowing in my direction. I will post a picture when I get a chance. Its possible the doe in the NNE had crossed my trail to the tree but she had continued on before blowing. weird? I will see next weekend

I’ve seen 1 or 2 does start blowing just because they heard another doe blow. It’s sort of like one alerts and scares the other, so the other starts blowing and they just keep going back and forth. There could have been a coyote or bobcat or who knows what.

I heard a doe blowing last night just before dark. I'm sitting there thinking there is no way that deer can be blowing at me. A few minutes later the coyotes started howling close so I'm pretty sure she was blowing at them.

I once called a doe that was snorting down the hill from me in the dark. Everytime she snorted I snorted I did what she did. Shot her at 15 yards about half hour after daylight. Snorting is a form of communication between deer not all snorts are alert snorts. I always carry a snort call. It has work too many times for me not to carry one just like a doe grunt.

Ditto that! Anytime I jump a deer in the dark and they blow, I blow back with the same number and cadence they do. Sometimes they hear you walking in and blow an alarm and blowing back makes them think it is just another deer. Works more time than not for me.

I think I tried that Sunday morning. I came over a hill and had a doe snort at me. I must have been right in top of her. Almost snorted my pants full.

I carry one around my neck anytime I hit the woods.

I like using the snort while rattling. Never would have used the snort if I did not sit in my stand and listen to two bucks at war. Limbs breaking, horns clashing, deer running, Groning and snorting. My knees was shaking and this war was probably 350 yards away. Could not see the fight but on that day I realized that there was no way a person could mimic this in a rattle sequence.
