Hey all,
Really excited to build my first DIY Tether and Linemans belt for my Tactisaddle.
Decided on Oplux for both. I am NOT getting it with a factory sewn eye. I'll be making a figure 8 bight, unless talked into another knot....

What are all you using for your knots? Bights, tethers, linemans belts etc.

I'm thinking of a distel hitch on tether, poachers knots to carabiner.....not sure what to do on my linemans belt.
Open to suggestions. please let me know what you use and why.
Thanks!!

I'm using the 8.5' sewn eye from Wild Edge, it's not bad but a scaffold of figure 8 would be more compact. For my new rappel line (40' of OpLux) I'm using the scaffold knot (3 turns instead of the 2 on the poachers) to tie in my triangle quick link. Keeps the quick link from sliding off and is more compact than the Figure 8. Interested to see what others are using.

I recently did both the lineman’s and tether DIY with Oplux and TRC. I ask some similar questions in this thread, attached below and got some good response from others on knot options for all aspects of the set ups.

Got all of it from Eastern Woods except carabiners.
- 22 feet total Oplux (11 feet for each rope)
- 7 feet TRC (3.5 feet for each distel)
- Petzl Am’D twist lock carabiners
- mini Kong tender

- I did figure 8 bight knots on both one 4” one 6” loop
- Barrel knot on tail end as a stopper knot
- Distel hitch, 4 over 1 seemed to hold well but still could adjust with one hand using tender
- I used Scaffold knots for TRC distel termination knots onto the carabiner. Something about that extra turn just made me feel better about it but a lot of other said poachers worked for them and are a little smaller knot.

I’ll post some pictures

Distel on this pic is 3 over 1, I switch to 4 over 1 but didn’t take an updated picture

No problem. Yea I liked the way the 3 over 1 moved with the tender but once I did did some sudden “mock falls” at ground level and bouncing on the Distel it slide a few inches before grabbing well. 3 over 1 did eventually grab but definitely felt a little safe with 4 over 1

I've heard the VT hitch is GREAT too.

And "XT" is a variant of that.... I'm going to try them all. By no means am I a pro. Just a noobie researching and testing. Good luck and be safe.

Is a 4 over 1 distel hitch better than a prusik for attaching a carabiner to a tether or linesman?

I’m honestly new to all this myself but from research on here and some of the arborist sites it’s seems like some of these other hitches like the Distel, Schwabisch, and VT mentioned above you get a hitch that’s strong and grabs well but is easier to adjust after a load is placed on it. Where the Distel can sometimes lock down and be difficult to move with one hand even with a tender. All should be safe, just personal preference.

I’m sure others have more technical reasons to add but this was my basic understanding.

Helpful thread. Do you wind up connecting the linesman belt to your saddle with a girth hitch on the left side or figure 8 on a bight, or carabiner?
