Oplux tether

You can buy an Oplux tether with a sewn eye from Wild Edge. There are other options to buy Oplux with a sewn eye as well. Alternative is, you can get a sewn eye on Samson Ultra Tech from treestuff.com. I prefer the ultratech anyway. You will have to call to order it though.

Side note: Samson UltraTech is actually stringer than Oplux, for those that care.

Wonder if theres anyone that's tried repelling with oplux and that Samsung ultra tech cord both? Both same basic size and price. I may look into it more before I order some oplux

I have repelled with oplux it works good

I know oplux seems to be the choice for people rapelling, but from what I've read that Samson rope is same size and has a good bit higher weight rating. Just wonder if it would be stiffer and if people have rapelled with it and oplux both in our normal applications of hunting.

One of them there Madrock safeguard with a sterling hollowblock as back up

That is what I have, but the rope wants to roll over the side of the madrock and I just don't feel I have a very smooth controlled descent. Also have the sterling hollowblock 2. What knot are you tying it with to the oplux as your back up?

I've seen that video, but he is not using a madrock safeguard. I think I am having issues with the safeguard.

Pursik knot, hooked into lineman loop. I just guide it with my hand when it wants to roll over the side.

Is there something better than the madrock safeguard that will let you stop mid rappel and be hands free for a bit?

What about 10mm rope for the safeguard? Would that function better? I'm about to make the purchase but want to be sure its going to work great.

For rappelling, I'm going to a grivel master mono with prusic or klemheist knot for a backup hooked to my lineman's loop. The backup knot will allow you to stop. I have the safeguard and am going to try SRT with it and an ascender.

So you don't use the safeguard for rappelling? The grivel was alot cheaper than the madrock but I figured the safeguard was everyone's favorite.

I've tried it and it works. If I end up using srt to climb I will probably rappel with the safeguard. Currently I like the grivel master mono the best to rappel, but you have to use the back up to stop and be hands free. Some will say use the backup with the safeguard also. You can SRT with the safeguard. You can't SRT climb with the mono. You have more options with the safeguard

I am a rappelling newbie. In my trials the grivel master mono with the beal jammy backup I am liking better than the safeguard with the beal jammy backup. It is easier for me to have a smooth descent. I am getting better with the safeguard. Not sure which way I am going to go. Got several months to try it out.

If you’re only rappelling there are less expensive and better performing options. An ATC being one. The beauty of a mechanical belay is ascending a rope.

I learned how to rappel with an ATC (without an autoblock). If I SRT up a tree, I rappel with my Safeguard, otherwise I rappel with the ATC and an autoblock. The ATC/autoblock combination makes for a very easy, smooth rappel. As a side note, I would NEVER again use an ATC without an autoblock unless I had to.
