I’m probably beating a dead horse but I haven’t been able to find any solid info on this. Any hesitations with using 8mm oplux as a tether with the 6mm trc for prusik knot? I found a pre tied 7 ft lineman’s belt on bullmanoutdoors.com that seems like you could use it as a tether or lineman’s belt. Thanks for the help. It’s my first season in a saddle

Lots of guys are using an Oplux tether, many in conjunction with a 6mm TRC friction hitch.

Lotta folks use a bigger rope because the ropeman is a game changer on your tether. I also use 8mm oplux to rappel at the end of the sit, so it should be strong enough. But i don't know any real info.

Oplux is rated at 5,400 lbs. minimum breaking strength. If you want a mechanical tender, the Kong Duck and the Roll 'N Lock will both work.

Does a Ropeman 1 not work?

I’m not to concerned with a mechanical ascender as I’m just starting out. Just wanted to know if anyone had any second guesses about using the combo I mentioned above

It will work fine unless you hunt very big trees. Then you may want to step up to a length of 8-9'. For 90+% of saddle hunting you will be happy with it.

Ropeman 1 recommend for the 10mm diameter to the 13mm diameter rope ropeman 2 recommend for 8mm diameter to 10mm diameter ropes!

That's the setup I use on my tether. TRC tied into a distel hitch, I would recommend a few extra wraps on the distel so it can bite better. I had a little slippage when I only used 4 wraps.

I run a 10’ 8mm Oplux Tether with 6mm TRC distel hitch. Same thing for my lineman’s but only 8’. Absolutely love it. 10 foot because I sometimes hunt big trees and I didn’t want to short myself. The 8mm rope is so small, the extra 2 foot on the tether doesn’t add hardly any bulk . I don’t run a tender. I just run the tag end back through the Biner and it tends it perfect. The Distel does over tighten after a few hunts but not all the time. I just loosen it and it’s good to go for a few more sits.

I was wondering if the biner would work like a tender. I saw some other guys using it that way but wasn't sure with the smaller diameter.

I've been using 8mm oplux as a tether plus a 5.5mm beal jammy for probably 100 hangs. The jammy is officially rated for ropes as small as 8.1mm, so it's a little out of spec but it has worked fine. 6mm should be right on.

I run 9 feet but I always have a ton of extra. I think 7 feet would be fine...maybe not goo on huge trees but I try to avoid them anyway....

@60daysoutdoors I’d be lying if I I said It doesn’t hang up sometimes, but not enough for me to worry about a tender. I did try one of the tenders (the one with the webbing and plastic loops on each end) and it didn’t work much better in my opinion.
@dlist777 yeah I don’t hang in big trees as a rule but I hunt in Cypress swamp sometimes and some of those Cypress are pretty dang big. Like I said that 8 mm is so small I hardly notice the extra. Now when I was using 11mm rope... that’s a different story! And my rope was orange!:tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

I just made a 7' Oplux tether with TRC distel hitch with 5 wraps and Figure Aider. 4 wraps had it slipping sometimes.
