Another member turned me onto safeTech: here are the specs on both - very similar. Below is a link for 40' of safetech for $30 on ebay
Sterling Rope SafeTech
SafeTech is an 8mm escape rope that has a Technora sheath and nylon core construction, heat resistant to 932 deg F. The best heat resistance for repeated exposures to high temperatures. Round construction is easy to handle and locate with gloved hands, while Technora provides the highest level of abrasion and cut-resistance compared to other high tenacity fibers.

New Sterling 8mm Safetech Technora Rope 40'(12m) Fire/Rescue/Tactical | eBay
New Sterling 8mm Safetech Technora Rope 40'(12m) Fire/Rescue/Tactical. Condition is "New". Shipped with USPS Parcel Select Ground.www.ebay.com
it is the same outer shell - technora, with a nylon core, and is the same weight with slightly lower weight rating - and same dimensions so it should pack very close to the same. The advantage of Oplux or Resc Tech or Safe Tech is the reduced weight.Does it compact down like oplux does?

You say about 40', what is actual length, age and condition? How much do you want for it?I have about 40’ of oplux I’d probably sale.
where did you find info that safetech is a single-use rope?you could also check out km-iii at rope.com. it is .98 per foot for 3/8" od green which works out to about 9.5 mm.
I have recently picked up both this an the safetech mentioned above. I am planning to test them both and choose what I want to start rappelling with for next season. As mentioned, the safetech is not meant for what we would use it for. It states it is a one time use rope. your are technically supposed to trash it after the first use.
KM III Static Rope
KM III Static Rope is NFPA and CE certified, the KM III static line is perfect for rappelling, caving, top roping and life safety applications. KM III Static Rope unique filament polyester sheath is balanced with a unidirectional nylon core to limit rotation, bounce and stretch.www.rope.com
It's actually in the pamphlet of information that comes attached to it.where did you find info that safetech is a single-use rope?
Technically based on this it is a one time use rope. But as you said. We aren't using it for it's intended purpose. So most likely would be fine. But still needs to be said that manufacturer recommendation is one time use. We all take out lives into our own hands when we are using equipment in ways it wasn't meant to be.It's actually in the pamphlet of information that comes attached to it.

I use a safeguard and 40' of Oplux for rappelling...works the nutsI was looking at as an option as well. However I'm running a SAFEGUARD it doesn't recommend anything less than 9mm

Interesting. I know sterling sells "personal escape ropes" that they advertise as single use, however I've seen safetech advertised elsewhere as a multi-use rope for firefighters.Technically based on this it is a one time use rope. I still plan on seeing how it performs as I don't think it will be an issue.

100' ?Interesting. I know sterling sells "personal escape ropes" that they advertise as single use, however I've seen safetech advertised elsewhere as a multi-use rope for firefighters.
As with everything we use out of spec I suppose it's a personal decision. Looks like I'm returning to the biting the bullet and buying 100' of oplux plan.
Smallest length it comes in direct from sterling/etc. Seems like pretty much all by the foot vendors are sold out or priced high enough that buying twice what I need and selling half here is likely the best option100' ?

I use 10' for tether and 10' for lineman and 40' for rappel...works well for all 3good thinkin
That's what I thought as well. I didn't realize it was so glad use until I bought it and read through the paperwork. Just goes to show, always read the documentation. LolInteresting.
