Ozonics unit used to cover ground scent?

Has anyone carried their ozonics unit pointed behind them in an attempt to kill your ground scent?
I hunted a creek bottom last week and saw a few shooter bucks. Knowing the wind and temps would be the same the following day I used my ozonics to cover my ground scent on the way out moving real slow and quiet. On the way in the next afternoon I used it again in an attempt to kill my ground scent. Im not sure if it worked but I managed to kill a 4 year old 10 point that walked across my path. Not sure how much it worked but I thought it was possible. Whatcha think??

Personally I’m not convinced on the effectiveness of ozone generators while in open air environment. But with your situation, I could conclude it certainly did not negatively affect you! Congrats and I like the “outside the box” type of thinking, whether it worked or not.

Ya Im not convinced it worked but it certainly didn't hurt. I can however tell you without hesitation that the ozonics unit absolutely works in an open air environment. It's dependant on many variables but when the wind is relatively steady and not to hard it's effective.. Swirling high winds its useless and very light or no wind it can be effective but becomes more dependent on thermals amd topography

They work in a enclosed space I know for sure.

Maybe I'm not familiar enough with these things but don't they suck air in, clean it and blow back out? If so then zero chance that little fan is drawing in anyone's scent from more than a foot in open air, add wind and that scent is flying away. Maybe I'm way off on my thought process IDK

No, it sucks in oxygen, energizes it which turns it into O3 which is ozone. When Ozone touches organic molecules, which most odors are, it oxidizes them (or kills them). It's in the text of the link.

I see what your saying but still don't understand how it could take care of an entire body, any wind would still blow away scent. It don't matter I guess, if it works for you "go for it"

I'm not arguing that they do or don't work in an open environment. I've never used them in that way. Although, I have had good luck using them in a closet to deodorize my clothes. I was just supplying the info on how they work.

Yep in enclosed space they do without a doubt work, I've seen that in action

Imagine your scent being carried by the wind in one direction, the ozone unit is positioned so it produces a curtain of ozone that your scent is blown into. Ozone is heavier than aor so it naturally sinks and when it comes in contact with your scent it neutralizes it. Now obviously the effectiveness of how much of your scent is being neutralized depends on many variables such as wind speed, wind constant and position and output of the unit. What I have found though is even on days when the wind swirls a little the ozone is still effective enough to neutralize a portion of it and that confuses the deer. I have seen them get my wind but only mildly react to it maybe get a little nervous and then resume feeding. I spoke to a tech at Ozonics and he said what is happening in those situations is they get a diluted dose of your smell like what they would smell if you were 400 yards away or something. They smell you but assume the danger is a long way away so the reaction is slight enough to have an opportunity that you may otherwise not have.

If you want a really detailed understanding of ozone, how it works, and how it can be applied in both an open environment and to deodorize clothes I suggest you do a search in this forum for the term "ozone" by the member "bassboysllp" He is a member that isn't real active anymore but I believe he is a chemical engineer with a PHD that designs ozone systems. You will find several discussions where he goes into detail that helped it make sense for me.

I believe his theory is that ozone in the stand isn't necessarily destroying all of your scent but, is acting like a nose jammer when the ozone reacts with the membrane in the deer's nose. That reaction you are seeing isn't so much them smelling a human and thinking they are far off but, instead is them wondering why they suddenly can't smell anything.
